Hey everyone I was just wondering about swapping my car over to a carb. The reason I ask is because for the cost of a good FI intake couldn't I have my car swapped over for the same price? I would just want a edelbrock performer intake and a 600cfm carb.

Thanks,
Joey

You can search for the word carb or crazypete or srothfuss. We discuss carb swapping all the time. Crazy has a real nice write up on all the stuff you would need for the swap. It's probably two months old now...

Thats right ;)

It'll cost a bit more:
1. carb :$300
2. intake $150

3. eccentric: $30
4. timing chain over: $100
5. Fuel pump : $30
OR
6. electric pump: $50
7. Inline Fuel pressure regulator $30

you have to drop the tank either way. I'm a rabid mechanical fuel pump enthusaist. Most folks use electrics. It's up to you. Mechanical is more reliable but electric is more of a direct swap in but you need to wire up a relay system and worry about fuel pressure

THEN
7.lokar throttle cable: $25
IF AUTO
8.lokar TV cable: $25

9. Some kind of air cleaner: $30

Then strip the EFI crap out of the car and be happy!

PM me if you have any questions.

I think you can modify the timing chain cover.Looks liek you could just cut and grind out the material and it would work.it has the mounting flange and threads

I searched, but what about all the gauges in the car. Will they still work?

The water temp & oil pressure gauge wiring lives in the injector wiring harness. Remove the harness & your stock gauges quit working.

A 95-99 V8 Ford Explorer intake manifold flows almost the same as the GT40 and will sell for $200-250 complete with injectors & a 65 MM TB if you do some shopping.

Yeah thats what I have heard about the explorer intake. I just really want to get rid of all that wiring mess and have a clean engine bay and the ease of tuning. My car already has the dreaded idle surge since the rebuild and it just doesn't have the best response.

I switched to a dual quad setup from a efi with blower... I got tired of all the electrical gremlins and did not want to pony up the cash for a stand alone efi setup and dyno time to get it running correctly... I sold the blower on ebay and paid for the swap that way... you could probably do the same by selling some of your efi stuff. The car is reliable again, easy to diagnose and fix, and has a better WOW factor when you pop the hood... no one expects dual quads in a 95 cobra.

HOWEVER, it is by far NOT a daily driver... I only drive it if it is really nice out.
