I used to wonder why people did that without painting them until I saw one up close. Those carbon fiber hoods are a thing of beauty!:nice:

If I could afford one of those carbon fiber RTR mustangs I'd buy it and just sit there and :fap:

Any weight on that carbon hood? I hope between the hinges, and latch to take somewhere around 35 lbs off as the stocker weighs about 43.

I wanna say between 20-25lbs. The factory WRX hoods are already aluminum, so it doesn't really save any weight, I have this one cause my factory hood was damaged and we couldn't locate a factory replacement. I imagine if you could get a nice one, it would cut a ton of weight off the front end. Fox hoods are so heavy. This one is made by Seibon.

I was going to have them paint it until I saw it in the sun, when it is clean it is awesome looking. So I just had them clear it.

Well I got a shipping weight of that ebay hood. It is 23a lbs packaged in the big cardboard box. Guy says its about 16 lbs. Aannnnnnnd it is a cf overlay on a glass skeleton like I figured. Forgot to ask if the underside is finished thought.

Srtthis- lift off going to use dzus's

Did you think of trying to cut the underside of the stock hood out? I bet you could get it pretty light for free.

Also, a guy around here has a 2.5 inch CF hood that is pretty nice, I was gonna buy it but it wouldnt fit my car with the box intake. I think he wanted 400 for it. IMO the CF isnt too much lighter than the glass, and the glass isnt much lighter than the steel one.

Thats not true, the stock hood is heavy, even with the supports cut out. The harwood hood i bought i probably half to weight or less then the stock hood with the supports cut out.

I was thinking of gutting the stock hood but I didn't think I could get it down to the weight I am looking for. Pretty sure that one is the one I saw on craigslist. Was asking 450. On a green gt maybe? Worked pretty hard to get the stock hood to fit but now that I am thinking of it a cf hood might be thicker then the steel one enough to hit the intake elbow, which currently rubs slightly once in a while. Maybe it is time for a very slight cowl ehhhh.

I should probably get a small cowl hood myself as my "R" intake rubs the hood just ever so slightly. I do want a glass hood to cut some weight off the front though.

If yu are gonna put dzus fasteners on the hood, flat hood or not it wont be fooling anyone lol. I could see what the deal with my friend bills hood is.

Feather carbon has a real bad rap. I called hardwood they are coming out with a 3" cowl really soon. The extended 6" cowl they have that is cf is 16.5 lbs. Id assume the 3"cowl one should be around 13.5 lbs or so which would be cool. Reasonably priced also. Dmc is over 1k. Thanks though.

FWIW i think my harwood is a piece of ****. Horible finish on the edges and underside and a VERY thin gelcoat. There are crack at the mounting brackets. And the the laminated edges look like ****, cant complain, needed a hood and it was only $100

the feather carbon we had layed in place on bobs car looked well built and had bracing built into it to keep it stiff. cant think of anyone off the top of my head who runs them other then chris at FMM.

the cirvinis 6" extended that was on the coupe i think was around 50lbs. (or alteast felt like it) after we cut it back and cut everything out of it we could its not to bad but its cracking from all the movement now.
