i hear what your saying,i was never against the idea completely, just as far as swapping just to make power in a good running efi car that gets its share of driving.to be honest with you i actually plan to sell my lx and buy a notch and put a carbed 2valve motor in it,maybe even a 4valve because i think its cool and something like that it would prob be much easier then dealing with all the wire swapping.

Cool. Thats exactly what I figured was done...

Cammed, ported, revved out, and HP was at the crank.

Wonder what that same 4.6 w/FI with a good tune would put down under the same conditions?

.. likely on a test bench with zero accessories the way they do it on FF&MM.

Swapping a FI system for a carburated makes as much sense as swapping your disk brakes for drums.

Fuel enconomy boils down to tuning. Wether its a carb or injectors. I have cars running a car get good miliage, but I have FI cars get terriable milage because of tuning issues. The biggest reason in the jump to better milage in the late 80's was becasue of the switch to overdrive transmissions. that had the biggest effect as well as smaller cars too. Carbs will tend to atomize the fuel better then injectors which do a general poor job of that. Also injectors are somtimes placed too close to the valve, which doesn't allow the fuel to atomize well either.

i think you would make the same power if you replaced that carb with a 4 barrel throttle body and a big enough MAF system, then you wouldn't have the flow problems associated with tradional FI intakes. A 4 barrel throttle body can flow as much as 2000cfms. More then enough to feed all but the biggest of engines.

hello you guys i just joined right now. i just finished a carbed 4.6 in a 82 capri, and i have a 03 gt with stage 3 trick flow heads ,9cc forged pistons cobra crank and forged i beam rods, with 278 cams, with a performance products manifold, acufab every thing else to much to list and i spray a 200 shot . the only reason i did all this work is because i bent a rod on the stock engine spraying a 150 shot, so since i had a whole nother engine with patriote stage 2 heads and 270 cams ,after opening the engine and i found out the rod only needed th be changed. so i put it back together and added edlbrock carb intake. i had it port matched and added a 750 race holley, msd 6 mod box ,msd coil packs needless to say with less the capri pulls my gt almost 4 cars motor on motor. i put a lot of money into my gt i looks cool but im impressed with the capri. il post some pics soon after i have both cars dynoed. carbed does flow better way better when i get some more money a forged rotating assembley and a fogger on the capri it going to be fast

I'm not sure what you're trying to say there but an '82 Capri has a pretty substantial weight advantage on a 2003 GT, like, possibly 500 lbs or more. Any decent running 4.6L in a Four-Eyed Fox is going to move pretty good.

The point is that your stock Capri weighed ~2500 lbs. Your stock 03 Mustang weighed ~3200 pounds. If you simply put a stock 4.6 under the hood of both, the Capri would tear the 03's paint off.

The carb set-up has nothing to do with it.

And the reason people mention your grammar and spelling is because if you would like to share your experience, it would *really help* if we could understand it. Your teacher was trying to help you communicate your thoughts and experiences to the rest of the world. It's your loss if you weren't interested in learning how to do that.

In other words, if you don't care to write in an easy-to-read manner, why should anyone care to read what you have to say?

again for your info the capri weighs 3327 pounds all day long ,and the 03 weighs 3561 pounds. im at the shop right now, and the only way the gt pulls the capri is on the spray .we just ran them with four grown men weighing over 180 pound in the capri and, the capri still wins. the carb set up is just better for n/a 2v. were about to hook up a 100 shot to see how it does. i was only on this forum to see if there were any other carbed 2v's. thanks for the conversation i dont know why the carb set up works but, it does and everyone who has tried it have said the same thing ,it makes more power and i can say the same thing.

Well that's pretty cool.

Don't know what all you have on those cars because I'm not the only one saying an early 80's Fox weighs half a ton less than a New Edge.

Be interesting to see the dyno sheets of the two engines.

It's not exactly like you have two motors that are identical except for carb and intake. It's hard to say the carb is the only relevant difference. But it's cool that it's running well.

I have dealt with these Eddy 4.6 intakes a bit now, up to about 7200 carb and EFI are equal on it, higher than that the carb wins over for the main reason the plenum is too small for the EFI application unless you put a monster spacer between the intake and elbow and run a monster hood scoop. The carb version of this intake also flows higher, and the cooling effect of a ton of fuel in it helps the higher RPM HP numbers as well.

Probably a silly question, but would such a setup clear the hood on our cars?

On a 4.6l DOHC carbed setup, you will not have the hood clearance on your factory hood.

I don't know about a 4.6l SOHC??
