I have a Edelbroke 1406 600CFM carburator with the Edelbroke
aluminium intake on my 351C 1970 XR7 Mercury Cougar
Latelly it's been causing me some problem with the gas staying
partially stuck if depressing the accelerator slowly, it can run
anywhere from 800 RPM to 2500 RPM, while I adjusted the idle at
roughly 500-600 RPM
It does not do it when it's cold i.e. when starting the engine or
after a few minute even while it's reaching operating temps. It
does it after a good ride. The car was not run during winter except
started every mount for about 30 minutes.
While the gas is 'stuck' and trans is in Park if I kill the
engine the throttle immediatly goes back to 'zero' position. If I
move the throttle by hand directly on the carburator I can feel the
resistance in the throttle plate and this resistance vanishes
immediatly when the engine is off even if it's fully warmed.
When trottle cable is disconnected, or Electric choke is powered or not, made no difference.
I must admit I'm truly puzzled by that...but since my knowledge of
carburator is limited, maybe someone can point me in the right
direction...I can give it a good clean...but i'd rather know what
part of the carburator to give more attention too.
