Cars paid off finally, time to mod...

Well not officially paid off yet, as I have to actually make the phone call one of these nights and have them transfer the final amount out of my account, but the moneys all there so for the most part, its done. I was going to just make some big purchases and keep paying monthly for the final 6 months but screw it. Id rather just get it done and over with. One less thing to worry about. Now Ill be able to start saving money for all the little things I want to do. Started tonight, bought 03 Cobra front calipers, brackets and rotors off a friend of mine from the dealership. Price was good, just needed to do a little work to them. Previous owner had decided to try and paint them red but mustve been in a hurry. Runs everywhere, lots of missed spots etc. So I took my time, sanded down all the run spots and repainted them red. Did a few light coats tonight, gonna let them sit overnight and finish them up tomorrow. Ill snap some pics then too. They already look a hundred percent better. Anyone else got spring projects underway? My next big thing 5 speed conversion and I want to start tackling the black interior conversion. Already have most of the parts for each just never had time before my dealer closed down, working two jobs 7 days a week. Hopefully lots of progress pics and updates will be in the making.

No definitely wont be selling it. I have three cars, so the other two would be on the chopping block before the Mustang. Well, the Eclipse would be anyway, not the Mountaineer. The stangs a keeper for sure.

Nope, its still a slushbox as Ford designed it. I was originally going to put a shift kit in it but I came across a 94 T5 for the right price so I bought that, the bellhousing, the trim ring and shift boot, the pedal assembly and a few other odds and ends about a year ago hoping to do the conversion. Then I got a second job and was doing 7 days a week for a year so I never had time. Now that my dealer closed down though I have the time to actually get it done once its warm out.

not bad man... i got a bunch of stuff for the car sittin downstairs... if ur aode had some work to it or a shift kit, i wouldve said id buy off you since we're not too far from each other(about an hour) you got any motor plans going on?

Oh yeah, didnt even notice you were in Providence. Ive been in Woonsocket the last three days for job training. I do have motor plans actually. Got a roller 351 sitting right next to the tranny and bellhousing in my storage unit. Trying to decide between 393 or 427 storkers currently. Each has its pros and cons. Every week I lean a different direction. Probably wont be doing any of that till next spring. Use this summer to get a solid plan laid down then send the block out toward the end of summer and get it machined. Then I can build it over the winter and hopefully get it put in for the spring. Then I have to decide if I want to do the work myself or have someone else do it. I have the tools and knowledge to do it, Im just weary from a lot of the issues Ive heard people having with 351 stroker builds. Almost at the point where Id rather pay and have it left to a professional engine builder/installer so they can deal with the headaches. I dont have a garage or even a decent place to work on the car so that is a major factor too.

As for the tranny, even though its still stock if you wanted it for really cheap Id be down with that. 90K on it. No sense having spare parts Ill never use lying around. Prob wont be for another month or two.

You are going to love your car with the 5 speed. It'll be a completely different animal for sure! I always seem to find that AODE equipped Mustangs are cheaper than 5 speed cars. And unless an enthusiast owned the 5 speed car, they always seem ragged out!

What I'm getting at is sometimes It's better to start out with an automatic and covert to 5 speed, this way you get a nicer car for less money. Not saying all 5 speed cars for sale are junk. Cobras of course are exempt from this rule of thumb!

I was lucky when I found my car, the previous (original) owner was a 38 year old woman that had the car bought for her as a present when she graduated college. She happened to be at the dealer when I was picking it up as she had just recently traded it in and was taking delivery of her Explorer that afternoon. She ended up mailing me all the service records she had for the car, which turned out to be more than I expected. Thing was ultra stock. Air silencer, exhaust, everything completely untouched. Thats the main plus side, car was likely never abused and had 90 percent of the maintenance work done at a Ford dealer.

And speaking of Cobras, theres a 94 or 95 Cobra I have to drive by every day on my way to work that looks like its been a daily four seasons driver for the last 15 years or so. Ive never seen paint as faded as this car has, at least not on a Cobra. Its supposed to be black but most of it looks like the clear coat headed for the hills at the turn of the century. Has friggin mud flaps on it, one tail pipes bent slightly downwards, all four wheels have hit their share of curbs... damn shame is what it is. Im tempted to stop one day and take pictures but with my luck theyll probably think Im trying to steal it. I considered asking if they wanted to sell it but I can only imagine what shape the motor and interior is in.

So its official, made the call and had them deduct the final 1800 I owed on the car. Didnt wait too long before I started spending more money. Found some black leather seats out of a 96 Cobra and black door panels to complete the black interior conversion. Already got the Landau Black paint from SEM for the dash and rear trim panels. Just going to do a rear seat delete with the black carpet and be done with it.

Well its been a week so I guess I can finally talk about it. Found a COMPLETE black interior on another site for 500 and jumped on it a couple weeks back. Kid lived in Pitsburgh which is about a nine hour for me. I figured what the hell, save a ton of money on shipping and Ill take a road trip. What a nightmare that turned out to be. Twenty one hours straight of driving with only 3 hours of sleep. Dont recommend it unless you have a few days to recover afterwards. In the end it was worth it. Got front and rear cloth seats, door panels, glove box door, scuff panels, door panel cups, console, rear trim panels and carpet all in mint conditon, just needed a good cleaning. Ill have to shoot some pics later. Took me a couple days before I felt normal again after the drive though. Too many caffeine pills. Should be starting the swap finally after a year of collecting parts. Ever since I was about 16 I always wanted a black on black stang with Saleen wheels and a
s281 spoiler. Took me eleven years but Im almost there... I was hoping I could find a black dash as well so I didnt have to paint but oh well. Its only going to be the airbags and a little of the dash as I already have a black steering wheel and steering column trim.

dont worry about the paint.
i painted my dash and airbags awhile ago and it still looks great.
just hit it with an armor all wipe when it gets dusty,looks just like the day i painted it.

Im worried its going to drip or have tiger stripes. Little things bug the crap out of me, more so since I became a tech. Now every little noise, every little imperfection literally keeps me up at night....

just go slow with many light coats,it will come out fine.
