hi all. i took the stang out for a ride today. i have noticed that the car is running between 195-200 most of the time. that is just too hot. i have a 180 thermostat in the car (original still). as you can see from my signature i have a lot of stuff on the car. i'm thinking the problem is either that i need a higher flow radiator or the thermostat isn't working properly. can you give me any insight? also where is a good place to buy a high-flow radiator if that's necessary? thanks!

FWIW, a 180 stat is not original.

you temps are no where near 'too hot' IMHO. that is actually perfect, I think (for drivability, puter control, etc).

if you are not happy with this, give more info about when it is that the car runs hotter (at speed, while idling, etc).

unless it is 30* where you are, I would be happy.

good luck.

a few weeks ago my car blew a heater hose so i've been affixiated on the temp guage lately. i don't remember it running as hot in the upper 190's on a regular basis. this is happening when i'm crusing around town and idling. i could swear it used to run cooler. timing is set to 12 or 14...can't remember. Thanks!

I would want to be sure you dont have air in the system (if that is the only change of late was having the system open for hose repair). getting air out can be pesky.

if you run cool at speed, but hotter in traffic/idling, that suggests the radiator is rejecting heat fine, but that the fan might not be doing as well as it could. I would want to make sure you dont have air in the system first though.

my two cents. good luck.

stock is 193, i think mine still has the stock. i have an electric fan, i have the fan off when driving, she runs around 193-197 ish. when i put the fan on, she goes down to about 185. I dont think their is anything wrong running that high

to bleed it, I like to jack up the driver side so the rad filler is the high point in the system (by a good ways - helps purge air). starting with a cold motor, remove the rad cap and let the car idle. keep an eye on the level in the radiator - as air is purged, you may need to top the level up.

a closed system like this should self-purge, but it can be hard to get the air out of the system (and take a long time) if you dont 'help it along'.

good luck.
