well im gonna be doing my tranny work soon, and going to pull my exhaust...

the car has nothing after the cats....the cat back rusted out and was removed....
the brackets and bolts are all still their.....

im gonna gut my cats a little..shhh..
and was looking to do a little cat back customizing....
i just need the pieces that can bolt up to the damn stock h-pipe...any ideas is their a universal muffler part etc.....
i wanna just clamp to the stock h-pipe and weld some mufflers and dum them down before the rear end...... less weight and cheaper....
i could just buy a pypes cat back for like 250.00 but i want some magnaflows......i want a new dohc style sound(as much as possible)??
any ideas

just get an o/r H or X pipe and have a muffler shop weld up some flowtubes to a set of magnaflows if that's what you want. it'll sound and run A LOT better to have a true 2.5" offroad pipe instead of a gutted, stock, 2.25" pipe. o/r midpipes are so cheap it's almost rediculous to settle with some cheap, hackjob stock pipe.

yah i was thinking to get the beast cat back system from pypes.... but i am hesitatn because i heard fitment issues with the off road pipe. plus im sure florida is gonna be having emissions soon.....so i want it to be able to pass visual inspections... cause im sure they wont sniff a 20yr old car.....

NAPA used to carry a 24" section of 2.5" pipe that had the flange and bracket to bolt to the H-pipe, it was less than $20 a couple years ago when I bought a set.

It'll connect, but as it's been stated above, gutted stock cats will flow like crap. If you're needing to pass visual, your best bet is to look for a cat'ed high-flow H- or X-pipe. A CatCo H-pipe with high-flow cats can be had from Summit Racing for right around (or just under) $300.

DO NOT bother looking at the UPR cat'ed X-pipe, or any other designed similarly - I've got one, and it's utter garbage. (Doesn't fit worth crap. Cats hit the tranny crossmember, front-end hangs too low, keeps sagging at the rear flange.)

Alternatively, you could always score a used off-road H-pipe for dirt cheap (I've seen 'em go for $40 to $50 all the time, and they're only around $100 brand new, anyway) and just swap your stock H-pipe back on there whenever it comes around due for inspection.

You *may* be able to get away with buying a couple of high-flow cats and an off-road X- or H-pipe and welding/clamping on the cats, yourself, to save some money, but you might run into fitment issues with that kind of a deal unless you're reeeeeeeally good at measuring things out in advance.

After that ... as suggested, just buy a pair of flow tubes ($40 a pair most places), bolt those on, and slip on whatever mufflers you want behind that. Make sure to clamp on a couple of hangers to the muffs or turndowns if you plan on dumping it ahead of the axle.

EDIT: If you're worried about passing visual inspection, I'm pretty sure that most places don't allow dumps, anyways, so you may as well shop for an actual cat-back. I second the recommendation for a Pypes cat-back - I'm very partial to the Violator mufflers, myself. :nice:

really they do not allow for dumps??? what the FOOOKKK.....
well i was gonna buy some flowtubes and calmp on some SLP loudmouth and dum them, but im not sure if slp and a glasspack are any different???
my second and cheapest option is a MAC dump its like 250 shipped...
3rd is the pipe cat back for like 250-300 shipped...... but the custom will let me be louder and lighter.and if i dont use slp overpriced muffler the cheapest...
what to do what to do???

any one got some opinions...

MAC or Pypes are equal in price...but i cant decide on sound..... im not a fan of flowmasters anymore, their played out and just too tinny.....i want a groql, like a new modular....as much as possible.....i want it to be loud, but not pericing ears like a crotch rocket....(too much attention),,,,plus i'll be keeping the stock h-pipe.....i dont want to spend the money for an off road, plus its got cats etc... so yah
flow tubes with some slps would be fun,but would require the most pita and loudest..
anyways im open for opinions....
ps. anybody got some fox pics of exhaust tips etc.... i was thinking of cutting my gt's bumper but yah thats ghetto....
and a cobra rear bumper is last on my list.....

Ya know, if there's a recycling place around you that takes scrap metal, there's a good chance that they'll pay you cash for your converters....pretty decent cash (if it's a stock 4 cat then probably 80-100 bucks depending on how full the cats are). It's possible you could sell it and get enough cash together to buy an offroad version from the classifieds or craigslist or something like that.

well it seems i like the loudmouths the most....
and with some flowtubes i could make a custom dump loudmouth for under 215.00

i hear macs resemble flowmaster so no way would i want them, plus the pypes full catback is almost the same price as a mac dumps...the only thing good about dumps is its about 30-40lbs lighter than a full catback...

so i could order the loud mouth catback for like 500 shipped.
pypes for 250-300 shipped...
or custom flowtubes to some loudmouth and dump them for 215.00-225.00

both catbacks would be easier to install and legal. but the pypes are affordable and the loudmouths are desirable....
and the custom setup would be a pita and probably ghetto by the time im finished also who knows what it would sound like considering it will be lacking pipe...
