Does anyone have a 99+ gt with the cats removed? I've only owned mine a few months and it had an x-pipe and the cats removed when I bought it. What kind of hp gains do you get without running the cats? Ive heard anywhere from 20-40, is that close?

Sounds like you may be growing tired of the sound, smell or both and are considering adding cats...? If you get a high-flow catted H or X (with single cats), the power loss would be minimal and your ears will love ya for it. Or just have high-flow aftermarket cats welded in. We loved the o/r H, flows and dumps on my wife's 01 for a couple months, then got tired of it, then hated it. We got to the point where everyone wanted to race (or thought we wanted to race) if we didn't crawl off the line at a stop light. And it was so loud, we couldn't race everybody...christ, you could here the thing 1/4 mile away!
Gone now is that exhaust system. In it's place - a custom, single cats H, flows and the tail pipe from my 02 (I got the full cat-back). It's still very aggressive sounding, but much more tolerable.

What he said. I love my Magnaflow catted X-pipe, not too loud, not too quiet - just right IMHO. Welding a set of Carsound brand catalytic converters might be more cost-effective than purchasing a new midpipe that has cats though, so you may want to consider that option.

Additionally, today's aftermarket catted X & H pipes will "flow" just fine (the power difference between "no cats Vs cats" is next to negligible, when comparing naturally aspirated engines).

I'm getting ready to go to an X-pipe without cats. I currently have magnaflow catted and it is nice. I'm going without cats since I'm adding L/T headers. If I don't like it then I will get cats added in.

I am going to be adding cats to my setup and was wondering if any body has some recomondations for brand, and/or has a part number. I looked at the stuff on the magnaflow site but am unsure of which part# to get. Exhaust setup is in my sig. but in case you dont look down there I have a MAC prochamber and 2 chamber flows. Another reason I am going to do this (beside needing to pass emissions) is the smell is finally starting to bother me, and I am also intrigued about the fact that I might get some torque back be putting the cats on.

why does mine sound so raspy? does any one elses sound like crap?
I also had a flowmaster catback and a bbk o/r x and mine too sounded horrible between like 2,000-4,500 rpms. Sounded great when the car wasnt under a load though. I also think I lost some torque. However it did run a 13.29 @105.73 with those being the only mods done to the car. I finally decided that the tin can rattle was too much to take and put my stock h-pipe back on last night. Car sounds stock again :( I have heard that the bbk is what makes it sound like crap so I am probably going to go with an h-pipe this time and probably catted. The car wasnt to loud but it was way to tinny. And we all know that an h-pipe sounds good with flows.
