Cats or Off-Road X Pipe

I just installed a Magnaflow catback exhaust and now want to put on an x pipe. I have heard alot of guys say they like the sound of the catted x better. I was thinking of going with a upr or dr. gas. Any suggestions?

Do you want the most performance you can get, or are you looking more for sound? If performance is what you want, get the o/r X. Sound doesn't matter much to me. I mean, when you're pulling away from the next guy, the last thing on his mind will be "That Stang sounds like a$$".

with your magnaflow I would run the o/r pipe. I think some people buy the magnapack and the go to an o/r pipe and get a bit of a rude awakening because that makes for a pretty loud car. louder than some will like.

basically if you add an o/r pipe and don't like the sound then you picked the wrong muffler because witout cats you are hearing the true sound of the muffler.

My exhaust set-up was just completed Sunday & I have to check all the connections cuz something vibrates @ certain RPMs, like around 2K. I don't know if it's the header-to-X-pipe connection or the Flowmaster 40-series 2 chamber Mufflers themselves but it's kina annoying. The drone don't bother me though; it sounds like an ol' 5.0.

The question I have been wondering about is this, some say that catless X-pipes cause you to LOSE torgue over a stock setup and that x-pipes with cats add more torque than stock and lots more than those x-pipes without cats... I wish someone would clear this up for me... I don't want to lose torgue on my 03 cobra....

oh.. and a borla stinger kit is my next part to buy :-)
Most people here report they are the best... although I truly love the sound of the magnaflows.... they make the most serious growl that i have heard from a mustang and make our cars sound like an older hot rod... growl in the throttle and when you left off... you can hear the car's RPMs come back down with the same type of growl... that is what I am after :)

If you're tuned for it, an X-pipe should not take any power away down low. Perhaps fellas are installing them without making the necessary adjustments in their tune. I put the pipe and the chip in together, and I definately did not lose power down low. She burns 'em through first and second, and grabs mean thirds! Oh, it's an auto.

01 Steed - FRPP 4.10's - no wonder you can burn 1st & 2nd with an auto :)

I do plan on getting a dyno tuned chip soon... but the o/r bassani is arriving today and I am not going to wait... it's going on today :)

Then, I will sit in the driveway smelling the exhaust and enjoying the sound :)

I just don't want to lose power just to get a nice loud sound out of my 2ch flows...

In the near future, I want to get the borla stinger catback... that with an o/r x-pipe might be too little back preasure.... I guess the tuned chip will fix this or did I take the wrong route to get power and sound?

No problem really. At WOT, you won't be concerned about what happens down low. A gear will do alot for getting you through the lower RPM, and muliply your torque. I think the two mods complement each other very well :)

Yeah, that Turbo Blue smell coming from the exhaust is nice!
