alright...got the 551 (i think that was it) and it was fuel pump - primary circuit failure. now does that mean the fuel pump is giving out (having a super hard time starting her and something is draining my battery) or is there a ground somewhere that is making that curcuit fail (hence the drain of battery)?? tryin to figure it out and im just not sure. thanx

Hey - A 551 is Idle Air Control (IAC) circuit failure KOEO. Are you sure it was a 551?

Was this a KOEO code or a continous memory code? Perhaps you're aware already, but when you run a KOEO self test it gives 2 sets of codes. The first is the KOEO and the second set is the continous memory codes. There is a difference in the diagnostics.

A KOEO code's Possible causes:

-- Open or shorted circuit.

-- Damaged CCRM.

-- Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

A Continuous Memory DTC 556 indicates a fuel pump primary circuit failure has occurred during vehicle operation. Possible causes are:

-- Open VPWR in the CCRM.

-- Open coil in fuel pump relay.

-- Open in fuel pump circuit (PCM Pin 22 or 41).

Is it a KOEO or a continous memory?

it only came up once and it was right at startup. flashed a few times and havent seen it since. i have always had a hard time starting my car (doesnt start sometimes and other times it takes forever and sounds like it is not going to start).

If you run an KOEO test and you don't get this code, it means that whatever caused it isn't happening right then (KOEO test) AND hasn't happened in the last 80 engine run cycles, or since the codes were last cleared (continous memory test). If you run a KOEO right now and don't get the code, I wouldn't worry about it.
