i was wondering if a top end kit would launch me into the 13's? thats my overall goal for the car.

get a sticky tire and launch at 4k+ rpms that will get the 60' down. you will found out that the first 60' of the race is the most important part. getting it down the track is easy. the launch is where it at.

ET Streets, I agree. He can't launch at 4000 though..footbrake to 2500 should do 'er (but he probably can't).

Missing the most important part of the puzzle, though. Get a 3000 RPM torque converter and you'll drop a lot of time. That'll allow you to footbrake to 2500..ET Streets will do the rest. Those two mods alone should put you around 13.9-14.1.

converter

i tried to see how high i could take the rpms on launch, but i only got as high as 1800rpms. so if i get a 3000 stall i should be able to take the rpms higher without spinning the tires will power braking?...not to be stupid but what will the tq converter do for me?
im very new to the real deal of racing cars.

Correct. A good 3000 RPM torque converter lets you bring up the RPMs...and will keep your drivability (it will seem like a livelier car). At the stall point (right before your tires spin), your torque converter is doubling your torque. Big difference in engine torque from 1800 to 2500 RPM, so you're launching with a lot more power. I've heard up to half a second can be had from a good converter vs. stock.

I get around 2500-2600 RPM out of my TCI street fighter converter. It isn't the greatest..I've heard good things about Edge Racing (I think) converters. Make sure you keep lokcup or you'll lose a few mpg while driving.

The converter is what is really holding you back. My 93 I can only footbrake it to around 1600RPM before it starts tryin to turn the rear tires over. An converter that will allow you to launch at higher RPM will get the most out of those DRs. You probably don't need to with the stock converter cause its probably hooking up pretty decent but when you swap to a different converter I would drop the psi down in the DRs a little more I usually run 16-18 psi on my MTs

You can see what I have in my sig. With the stock converter I have gotten a best pass of 14.02@ 100mph. But I can't really get my 60' below the 2.2 range. The car hooks and goes but the converter is killing me. Now with a little shot of n2o it gets up an goes :nice: I do have a 3000 rpm "non lock up" Lentech converter that I need to swap into it but I just haven't had the time lately.
