I am running a Centerforce DF on my 03 GT with a few bolt-ons..gear...the usual. My question: Is this too much clutch for a regular street/ everday driver?

The reason I ask is I installed the clutch about two months ago and loved it. When I'm at a dead stop and take off its fine, when i go to release the pedal for second gear, I can feel and hear a clunk or thud coming from the rear end area. I took it to my local driveline shop and the guy told me(after a test drive) that my clutch pedal was way too hard, and that for just what I have I needed to run a stock clutch. He stated that the springs in the clutch were too stiff and demonstrated they were by cruising i think about 40 and in 4th gear(the gear was about one higher than the gear you would normally have it in) and letting me listen to a rattling noise coming from that area, I couldn't tell if it was clutch or tranny noise? I did my research before buying this clutch and didn't notice any problems. I also had my rear end rebuilt just a few weeks ago just to make sure there were no problems back there.

So not sure that the problem is but I really wish I could have a good clutch to hold the few times I do race track/street and have a smooth engamement. I drive my neighbor't GT and I am jealous because he just goes into the next gear very smoothly, and I have to wait a second so I dont get the thud.

the thud could be the clutch not letting all the way out. and it grabs as ur hitting the gas and a thud. do you have a adjustable clutch quadrent? if you dont i would invest in one so u can adjust the clutch so it not so tight. that could be your problem. If you dont have one go with maximum motor sports one.

after I installed my DF I had to get a firewall adjuster and quadrant. i went with MM. I would get a new cable too. dont buy a adjustable one. If you go to MM website they explain that the stock cable is the strongest and best and thats why they sell them and no others. When i first got my clutch installed i had to push it all the way to the floor to shift gears. after the adjuster and quadrant i only have to push it in just past 1/2 to shift.

I had a Centerforce DF before I put my forged motor in, loved it. They pedal feel was almost the same as stock. If your mechanic thinks a DF is a tough pedal pusher he should try a Spec Stage 3. You get a work out pushing that in. I doubt the clutch is an issue.

That guy is feeding you BS. I have a CFDF in my supercharged 96 Cobra that made 414RWHP and it's great. I also have a CFDF in my 91 5.0L notch with just gears and a CAI. It's great in that car too. It has an easy pedal effort and smooth operation. But when you hammer the gas, and shift quick, it grabs hard and gets the power to the ground.

BTW...I have stock cables, stock quadrants and no firewall adjusters.

Thank you all for your time and input. So I guess I'm a little confused, some of us needed the Firewall adjuster/quadrant and some of us didn't. The ones that needed it...was it preference or was there a need to do it so the clutch would work properly? So If the the clutch isn't the problem and I've had my rear end rebuilt, any suggestion on where to check next? Thanks again

if it isnt that then check ur driveshaft u-joints and slip and hope it isnt ur pilot bearing or throwout bearing or u will be pulling that tranny again

i would just get the mms adj quadrent and pedal pickup. The stock one is plastic crap so u cant go wrong with getting one. Dont go with other ones the mms one is identicle to stock and works real well.
