Centerforce or FMS HD clutch questions

I was just wondering about the FMS HD clutch, i test drove a mustang today and it had the Ford motorsports HD clutch, and it is the hardest thing i have ever stepped on, there was times where i felt like i couldn't even push the pedal all the way to the ground. I was just wondering if some of the other popular clutch kits like the spec 1 , and Centerforce dual friction would be alot easier on the pedal pressure, Also this car was originally a automatic and it was converted to stick.

man that is supposed to be like one of the softest pedal feels there are in clutches for our cars

serious? well i wonder if the swap from a auto to manuel had anything to do with that, i cant belive how short the throws are tho from the pro 5.0 shifter, it felt like i would step on it and the pedal would go half way down and get stuck, then when i pressed really hard it would go all the way down, heh stalled it once kuz i wasn't used too it. Im also used to hydrolic transmissions with aftermarket clutches

what kinda clutch cable do you have, i had that similiar issue with a hard clutch cable, got an adjustable one and it felt a whole lot better, and i had the fms hd clutch, didnt like it much thou, went to center force and love it.

whats a good clutch cable to run?, they usually dont come in clutch kits huh?

also make sure the cable alignment out of the quadrant to the firewall is spot on. if it is off, it can make a really hard pedal.

The HD is NOT one of the lightest pressure feel clutches, if anything its one of the hardest. I've felt MANY clutches and the motorsport HD is the hardest of them all. Don Walsh told me it takes over 50ftlbs of force to depress it. That's all I have ever run on my car, but its just not cutting it anymore. It won't hold on my launches on ET streets. Its a great street/strip clutch other than the pedal effort, and I have heard others complain of the same problem I'm having with it slipping on the launch, but they were high HP cars and none were as heavy as mine, I think that is my problem. I am ordering a new clutch hopefully today as well as a new adjustable clutch quadrant. I run the laurel mountain mustang setup now, and it does the job, but I have a high rpm shifting problem that I'm hoping the setup from Pro-motion will help to cure.

It sucks IMO. I had one and it was a piece of junk and the hardest clutches I have felt also. I had a CenterForce and then put in the HD and it was a frigg'n work out! I then used a King Cobra and it wasn't any better. I now have a SPEC and it's the best one yet, and i replaced the cable, quadrant and added a firewall ajuster so it all may be relative to my clutch pedal pressure. The ajuster is a must have for you if you want to tailor your clutch pedal feel

Just rember... the spec stage 3= broken parts!!! Its been proven over and over. The thing holds like no other, but since it lacks a monsels spring, it puts a mighty shock on the driveline. Many user have experienced broken input shafts. This is just a FYI.

ALso, DOn Walsh has also told me on more than one occasion that the king cobra clutch was one of the biggest mistakes he ever made designing... it simply didn't do what they wanted. He wanted to design a clutch with the clamping force of the HD clutch but with substantially less pedal effort. I can't remember exactly, but it is only like 10-15ftlbs less of pressure than the HD clutch... he was shooting for around 50% less. If you talk to him he will tell you the same thing.

in their advertisements, they say some odd percentage or pedal effort, and state that it is that much less than competitors, i have to have a new clutch soon, i have a HD now i bought it because i thought it was one of the easiest, What is gonna be the easiest to push in everyone mind.


Killer-- my HD slips too, well now, i took off one day, smoked 1st 2nd and was barely moving so i try and throw it in third, tires quit spinning and i had a god awful smell in my car for about 3 days. You get the idea-funny as he// though

i think you mis-typed - it is a 'Marcel' spring. i only correct that in case someone wanted to search to find out more info about what it is and does (it is a wafer type spring between the friction surfaces). it helps with lessening harsh engagement (as said by K.C.). you need it on the street (IMHO).

Don Walsh does know his stuff!
