Cervinis Cobra-R Hood

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone here has gotten the Cobra-R hood from Cervinis for their 1999-04 Mustang. The reason I am asking is because I just bought it and I am wondering if there is anything I should worry about before I bolt it on when it arrives. I am specifically concerned about the hood lining insulation (if it is at all necessary) and if I may need hood pins out of some sort of necessity to make sure it doesn't break the latch.

Are these things I should worry about or just bolt it on and not worry about insulation lining and hood pins? I have gotten lots of mixed opinions from the guys I work with on cars that know more about body work so I am hoping someone here has the same hood. Thanks in advance.

PS- this is my first aftermarket fiberglass hood which is why I am worried about this.

nope you dont need that insulation, i have had it out for like 2 years now. It is just in there to help the car warm up in cold climates. You might have to adjust the hinges etc. I have the nichepi.com one, and it is great. my latch is very well built on the hood, so i have not had any trouble. Just check it out when you put it on before you paint it so you can use pins if you have to.

Oooh ok, so that is all the unsulation is for? Because I work with several guys (I am the only one with a Mustang) and one of them told me without that insulation I would bake the paint off from engine heat, and the other told me it was useless since the hood is fiberglass. That's god that you have the hood and already know. I feel a lot better about not fooling with insulation now.

Also, another problem is that the only hood pins I have even seen on a Mustang is on my dad's 1971 Boss 351 Mustang (r coded car!!! ) and I am not even allowed to touch that car. But yeah, I am going to wait till the hood is actually on before I ascertain if I need those pins. I am more or less curious to see if anyone else with this hood has used them.

Stay away from Cervinis I think they are a **** company there customer service sucks I would not recomend them to anyone I had a very bad experince with them and will never buy from them again

I am just curious, care to elaborate on what happened? Or perhaps how long ago this was?

Edited- I make too many typos, and I also noticed that you didn't have a review up in the review section on Cervinis parts so that's why I am curious to know. It seems the reviews are very mixed on Cervinis. I am starting to become very worried.

Well I ordered the cobra R bumper cover they sent me a cobra r hood i payed for the shipping on the bumper i called them up and they would not pay to ship the hood back so i had to pay to **** the hood back then i had to pay to have the bumber i ORDERED shipped to me they screwed up and would not help me at alll they were very rude to me on the phone and like i said i would not recomed them to anyone and this was about to years ago and there products are not that great the bumber did not last long and it scraped on everything was a pain in the as$ to drive with it on and to be carefull with every lil bump I just hope you get what you ordered the shipping isnt cheap

wow that weird about cervinis ive always heard good things, things went really smooth for me when i ordered from them about 2 years ago, my buddy has ordered a few things from them about 3 years ago and his went really smooth as well. i plan on ordering there cobra r hood and front bumper, but i ama little worried about the bumpers ride height since mycar is a daily driver do ya think i should go with the stalker

the insolation is for sound deadening, that's it. punch the 2 guys who told you it would bake your paint in the face, there are plenty of people here, myself included who have had the blancket off for years with great paint still.

I have a Cervini's Stalker Hood with no insulation .... no problems with delivery, product, or paint issues ...

Well thank you guys for all the tips and things. So I know now that I don't need that insulation for sure and with no mention of hood pins I'll assume I don't need them.

The Cobra R bumper cover hangs VERY low. How is it any bit their fault the bumper cover "scraped on everything was a pain in the as$ to drive with it on and to be carefull with every lil bump"? All of that it, is you.

You were jerked around on the shipping issue. I'll give you that. They screwed that up and should have fixed it. But to bad mouth a product because of things you did is irresponsible.

Well I don't really plan on racing it unless it is at the track. I don't street race and the track is really far out of my way so more than likely I won''t be racing it. However I do drive the car very fast down back roads so maybe it might be worth it.I'll have to think about it then look at the hood once it finally comes in which will be one week from today.

You could probably get away without using hood pins but better safe than sorry. Ford Racing makes a good hood pin kit. I just saw a video of a car with a carbon fiber hood fly open. http://www.netz.newenglandtunerz.com/videos/hoodpinopps.wmv

I honestly would recommend hood pins. I'm going to get them when I get my new hood...hopefully this summer. The money spent on hood pins is a sound investment in my eyes. ~$30 for the pins or $300+ for new hood and possible body work if the hood flies up on you.

I was just saying it was very low smart as$ Idid not say it was there fault it was low read above i just said they screwed me with all the shipping

Every single Mustang made since 1994 has left the factory with a fiberglass composite hood and no hood pins. A quality fiberglass hood does not need hood pins. Cervini's hoods are VERY well made (Steeda's too), and I speak from personal experience I've had both on 2 different cars.

maybe with some other kind of hood you would need a set of hood pins, but as long as you close the hood completely with Cervini's and Steeda you are fine IMO.

If you must buy hood pins, only buy stainless steel kits (Ford's is stainless I think). Chrome and other crap will rust and look like....well....crap.
