CFI Running Rich?

I have a 84 gt with a CFI motor in it. It is running rich i believe. It smells pretty strong of gas and it likes to back fire, especially when backing off at high speeds. anyone had problems with the cfi like this or might know of anyways to fix it??? thanks in advance.
