I'm going to put cats on my car since it is quite loud and I've had a lot of looks, just waiting for the cops to bust me.. :D

so, what I'm wondering, if right now my car is putting out 400cfm of exhaust flow per cylinder bank (estimate) how much does a catalytic converter flow?? I'm wondering since a 2.5" o/r h-pipe is a perfect match for my motor, if a 3" catted h-pipe would be just as good (and that way you don't lose the power?) or is that not a good thing as martha would say?

From what I've been finding about modern high flow cats, even a 2.5" one isn't restrictive in the least at most sane power levels. Carsound/Magnaflow seem to make some of the best. I've also been eyeing those from Dynatech in the new Summit catalogues, supposed to be smaller and lighter than other cats. Apparently, Bassani has some like that as well.

i wouldn't worry about it. a buddy of mine dyno'd his older turbo'd GTI with and without a cat. only lost 3 peak hp with the cat.
considering your mods, i personally think that a catted 2.5" h pipe would work fine, just use some decent cats.

Hey Jani. i got busted few days ago with my car, so i'm leaving to florida on thusday and when i come back in 2 weeks i'm going to get cats installed too, if u wanna wait we can go together if not then its cool anyways. noyzboys quoted 2 carsound-magnaflow cats installed ona car for 350 bucks. i dunno if its a good deal, i havent looked into that yet.

That sounds a little steep. You can buy good high flow cats for as little as $70 now, or even cheaper if you really shop around.
An additional $200 to install them is highway robbery.

.....and yes I'm talking in Canadian funds here.

The Carsounds would cost about $200 for the pair if they came from Jegs. Most muffler shops should charge no more than 30 or so to weld them in, maybe less if they just cut the pipe and clamp them.

hey, yeah, the ones we want are a bit more, $100 a piece or so.. magnaflow.. they're supposed to outlast the rest by a large margin?? I need a catback I've decided too.. going to finish my exhaust off !!

talking about tuning, I've adjusted my injector timing, ignition timing, injector slopes since we last talked and its been able to lean out a bit better but the top-end moves harded since the injector timing mod.. when is your chip comin' ?

I'm booked in for the 21 st of this month Jani. That was the earliest Bob Kennedy could get me in. He's a popular guy.

I suppose if you're driving your car in the winter you might concern yourself with making sure they're stainles steel at least, but the ones I bought are stainless steel as well, and they're 2 1/2 inch, but I paid much much less than $100 US each !! I think that when it comes to high flow cats you're simply paying for the name with Magnaflow.
Performance cats are performance cats and unless somebody can give me hard proof with air flow charts to indicate otherwise I wouldn't pay the extra for catalytic converters. I find it kind of funny when people buy polished stainless cats. Who in the hell is going to see them and they're a mint ?

Did you ever figure out why your fuel pressure drops so fast ?

Good luck with the exhaust project. I'm sure you'll be happy when it's done.

yea I don't know if you already have plans set in stone yet, but if you check out www.hottexhaust.com and give them a call and mention stangnet you can get a stainless catted magnaflow H-pipe for around $265 tax and shipping free. I bought and installed one on my car, and the quality and fitment is 10 times better than a cheap BBK pipe.
