Whats the difference between chambered and unchambered mufflers? I figure I better find out since I have an o/r x pipe and dont want it to sound like crap when I get a catback in the future.

Chambered mufflers have baffles, or chambers in them. Non chambered, or turbo/straight through muffleres are less restrictive, usually have some kind of packing in them.

GENERALLY people say X pipe sounds best with a straight through, one of my personal favorites is a catless X and Magnapacks.

So for an H pipe most people say chambered.

However, I have an X pipe and plan on getting a Mac catback (chambered). Its more about personal preference than what everyone else thinks... there are alot of vidoes on www.youtube.com and www.videos.streetfire.net to browse through as far as exhaust setups.

Come stand behind my SLP and say that again

On another not though, I must say I wish I had a catted-H Pipe to go with my SLP (straight through exhaust). Its a little sharp and loud, wish it were more deep and rumbly like the H-pipe provides

Get behind my wife's 01 with a catless X and SLP Loudmouth or mine with a catless X and Borla Stinger and see if you still think the same.

Really? I've been playing around with a few different exhaust setups on my friend's Cougar, and haven't tried that yet. You gotta get me some sound clips, GB!

I've got a Mac offroad X, and their 2 chamber catback system, and it sounds pretty good. I do want to swap my x with a Prochamber though, because the PC owns all. I had an old video of my exhaust somewhere, but can't find it at all.

chambered mufflers = more quiet... aka TEH LOSE!!

chambered also drone more..... since straight through design projects the sound out the rear of the car more, instead of resonating the cabin as much.

I like sound resonating inside the cabin. I can hear myself kicking someone else's ass from the inside

The good thing about SLP's and other canned straight-through systems on 94-04 Mustangs is that you can't see the "can" since it's well under the rear seats.

I don't like how import fart cans are visible from the back. They look so cheap and sound like "bees having sex."

I had the flowmaster/ Dronemaster 2 chambers and they sounded pretty good but when I swithched to Magnaflows there was no comparison! They kick ass and sound so much better at WOT!

The only fart cans I cant tolerate are on Supra's and Skylines. Those are the best sounding 6 cylinder engines evah, and by far my favorite imports.

I had to ditch my SLP LMI's due to the fact I got stopped for noise.

WHile I loved the sound, it was way to much for a DD.

I switched to Flo-wasters and while its not as aggressive sounding it still sounds good.

Really its to subjective to say straight through is better than chambered since dyno results will show marginal differences and the sound is a personal choice.

IMHO Mac Flowpaths are the best sounding muffler out there, and I've had my fair share of different cat-backs...but again its subjective.
