Change C&L to PRO-M. Will I need new tune?

Guys,

I'm thinking of swapping out my C&L mass air meter for a Pro-M tuned for 24lb. I've got a custom tune on the car. Will I need to get it re-dyno'd, or should it be a direct swap. Also should I notice any difference with the Pro-M. I've heard maybe a little better idle, and a better throttle response. Thanks for your time in advance.

I'm guessing your custom tune is a chip?

Just pull it out, then swap in the pro m.

just swap it out. and yes it will fix your idle immediately. i couldnt get my new stroker to idle at all with my c and l. it would just idle up and down and shut off. i got so frustrated and ordered a pro m calibrated for my 42's. i didnt beleive the hype about pro m but i was at a stand still and bought one. what do you know, to my surprise i fired the thing up after i installed it and it started right up and idled like a stock motor. i can set my rpm's as low as i want now.

you WILL need a complete new tune. Mass air meters are hit or miss. some cars work well with one meter and others run like crap with another, it depends. pro-m's are much better though.

I agree....definately if it is a burned chip tune and not just some dyno time with wrenching. MAF's are different (if they weren't you wouldn't be thinking about a Pro-M). Since they are different the tuning is going to be wrong from MAF 'a' to MAF 'b' or one that is having issues to a "quality" MAF. If the tune is on the edge or if there is a power adder involved I wouldn't think twice about a retune.

Most tuners are not gonna bend you over just to go in and adjust for a new MAF.

Thanks for the replies. I have an SCT chip, and the car was dyno tuned. I'm going to get the PRO-M, and give it a try. Shorthrow50 I'm hoping to be able to set my RPM's a little lower after I get it also. It idles pretty smooth. Just a little hight at about 950. I'll report back with my results. If I find it gives me problems with the current tune, I'll take it back out until I'm ready for a new tune. Thanks again.

I use a shorty 80mm Pro-M with my 42's for my blower and it works great. I would recommend it too.

Chances are the tuner that did the SCT would have thrown you a great deal on a SCT MAF and a retune for it. I know ours does.

YOu cannot just throw an entirely new MAF in a chip tuned car and think its goign to run right. Surely you will be going back to your tuner for a retune and installing the new meter while on the dyno, right?

I still say just pull the chip out, and put the meter in.
If the car doesn't run right, fix it, as is without the chip, then go back to the dyno to have it re-done if you choose. It's probably not doing anything for you anyway.
