Change from Synthetic oil to conventional.

When I first got my car it had synthetic oil in it and it had to be driven down to me, about 2K miles. It burned about a quart of oil over that time. It was in storage during the winter but had been driven a lightly a couple months before the trip was made. The oil hadn't been changed yet so don't know if that would affect anything. Engine only has about 58K miles on it. My dad talked to a Ford mechanic who had experienced F150 and 250 vans burning oil when using a synthetic and recommended changing. Just when I do change it every 1000 miles for the first 3000 to get any synthetic out of there. Any body have experience with this? On another note I've heard once you go synthetic you can't switch back, is this true? Or is it just not recommended. Thanks for any help.

Can't switch back?...that's crazy, drain the case, change the filter *make sure to use the BEST filter available no matter what oil you're using* and put what ever you want in it. The oil wont froth, separate, throw a temper tantrum...nothing it will be fine.

Agreed. Additionally, that aspect about the short oil change is for when you go from dino to synthetic - you AutoRx and/or short change on the first OCI with the synthetic.

motorcraft, mobil1, wix, my personal favorite is the K&N filter. I honestly believe when it comes to some aspects you get what you pay for. Filtering oil is far more important to me than type, I run castrol GTX 10w30 and with a low milage engine like mine I change it every spring and fall. My old mill lived 200,000 miles on dyno oil all types and god knows what filters, but I'm picky so I use what I trust. My 04 uses jiffy lube oil 5w20 dyno oil but ONLY motocraft filters...cost more but I trust the name.

not for nothing, but have you ever taken apart a K&N filter? It's junk...built just like Fram with the crappy cardboard ends.

I recommend either: Purelator Pure 1, Motorcraft, or WIX (however, I've never actually disected a WIX filter, but people seem to say they're good).

Mobil filter is made by the same company as K$N...Champion Labs.

I think your off on that,I believe they are similar to the FL-1A,Mobile,ect.

I have taken apart one befor and am pretty sure it had the metal end caps.

Hey Ill take apart our next one.But I have been told that the K&N has a much better FLOW than some oil filters.Now if I can find a reusable stainless mesh type filter with a anti-drainback valve,I would rather go with something like that,as the mesh type filter has even higher flow than the standard type filters.
