Change gear ratios in a Auto

Many 6 speed cars have a good OD gear like the T56 Viper spec tranny. It has a .50 OD gear. This is great for hwy crusing. The auto in my 2000GT, a 4R70W has a .70 OD gear. With a 3.73 it revs a little high at 80mph.

Is there anyway I can change the OD gear to a .50 or something similar. Has anyone done this.

I don't think you can short of actually replacing the gear inside the tranny

Can not be done. Not without a custom made gearset and total disassembly of the tranny. The cost and work involved would far out weight the benefit of the change and any savings you get from lower fuel consumption.

It would be easier to change to a T56 6 speed.....and possibly cheaper.
