I've heard through the grape vine that some changes will be coming for the next Heads Up event on August 12:
For those who don't know about the Heads Up program, go and check out www.headsupnw.com. We're currently running three classes (Outlaw, Drag Radial and Import) and are trying to get a fourth class up and running (True Street). This is the first full year of Heads Up racing in the Portland area and it's been a blast. No 1/8th mile. No brackets. Just beat your opponent to the stripe and light up the "W". This is real drag racing and those who have the competitive spirit (read: sack) need to get out there and show us what they've got.
- The entry fee of $20 is being dropped. A yet to be announced sponsor has ponied up some cash to make sure that trophies and payouts continue for the classes (it's traditionally been $100 minimum for the winner). Yes, Heads Up racing will be FREE for the rest of the season. Just pay your entry fee at the gate and you can come join the competition.
- The drag radial class is removing the tire size limitation for the race on the 12th. This is a ONE EVENT change. This is an attempt to get all of those nasty street cars that have a larger DR a chance to come out and play. We've been hearing all year that the reason the DR class is so small is because of the tire limitation. Well, it's gone for one race. So for those who want to see how they stack up against the best in DR, all I have to say is BRING IT.
- The schedule for the rest of the year *may* be changing - there will be more discussion on this in the future. Due to lack of RACERS there may be a couple of dates dropped from the schedule.
