I've heard through the grape vine that some changes will be coming for the next Heads Up event on August 12:

  • The entry fee of $20 is being dropped. A yet to be announced sponsor has ponied up some cash to make sure that trophies and payouts continue for the classes (it's traditionally been $100 minimum for the winner). Yes, Heads Up racing will be FREE for the rest of the season. Just pay your entry fee at the gate and you can come join the competition.
  • The drag radial class is removing the tire size limitation for the race on the 12th. This is a ONE EVENT change. This is an attempt to get all of those nasty street cars that have a larger DR a chance to come out and play. We've been hearing all year that the reason the DR class is so small is because of the tire limitation. Well, it's gone for one race. So for those who want to see how they stack up against the best in DR, all I have to say is BRING IT.

  • The schedule for the rest of the year *may* be changing - there will be more discussion on this in the future. Due to lack of RACERS there may be a couple of dates dropped from the schedule.

For those who don't know about the Heads Up program, go and check out www.headsupnw.com. We're currently running three classes (Outlaw, Drag Radial and Import) and are trying to get a fourth class up and running (True Street). This is the first full year of Heads Up racing in the Portland area and it's been a blast. No 1/8th mile. No brackets. Just beat your opponent to the stripe and light up the "W". This is real drag racing and those who have the competitive spirit (read: sack) need to get out there and show us what they've got.

The rules are in the class specific forums. Check out the links below for each class:

  • Outlaw
  • True Street
  • Drag Radial
  • Import
Check out the rules and see what class you fit in. The All Motor class has been eliminated for the year due to lack of interest. I'm sure it could be revived if there were enough people interested in getting it going again. I'll let Eric be the one to answer to that.

Oh, and BTW, the weight restriction of 3200 lbs. has been lifted for the DR class for the race on the 12th as well. That means I should be seeing a certain blue notch back with a PI headed 2-valve motor there as well as a certain red notch back that's been telling me he's gonna give me a run for my money for OVER A YEAR NOW.

I've also heard rumors that there's a price on my head for taking me out. Now I'm not talking about dinner and a movie (sorry BeenStroked), I'm talking about on the track (again, sorry BeenStroked). I'll let the one who started the rumor speak up as to whether or not that still holds true...

Thanks for the info. There aren't too many restrictions, are there. I guess I should look into NHRA rules for classes.

Id like to do this. Think im drag radial class, but my radials are like 10.5 in the rear. the no restriction and no entry sounds like a deal i cant pass up. What time do we need to show?

The gates will open at 5:00pm, first round of qualifying is usually arround 6:00.

For the time being we're not going to enforce the tire size or minimum weight in drag radial, and we'll see where it goes. I have a feeling that before long someone will come in with a car quick enough to scare most everyone away and we'll go back to the posted rule set but we'll see what happens.

Also, the schedule on the web site is probably not very valid. We are looking at dropping the two Woodburn races and replacing them with another race at PIR on October 7th. You can voice your oppinion at the link below.

what kind of turn out has there been in the True street class and what kind of time do you have to run to be competitive?

We haven't had enough of a turnout in True Street to really get a feel for it unfortunetly. The current ET record for true street car is 10.60 and the MPH record is 128, both by Brian Laughery in his yellow '78 camaro.

as long as there are enough cars, we have put in a 4 car minimum for all classes. I have no doubt that we should have at least that many on the 12th for true street.

Oh, I've brought it alright. And then I took it home.

And I'm bringing it Aug. 12 to show you how it's done at the track.

Come and git some - if you can...

Hmm, Ed "the factor" vs Phil...one on one in Texas hold'em...might go something like this,

Ed has 2 spades, Phil, King of Clubs and Jack of hearts...out comes the flop, 2 spades and a Jack of hearts....Phil bets, Ed calls....Turn card is a King of Diamonds, Phil as 2 pair, Ed, nothing...Phil bets small trying to get Ed to raise, but Ed calls....The River is shown, and its an Ace of Spades...Phil bets, Ed calls and shows his cards with the look of disapprovel...then Ed says, did I win???? The factor strikes again

5 card draw, Ed is stright dealt a full boat...what does this beat he says...the whole table wants to toss Ed out in the cold and lock the freaking door

LOL, I would like to see this match-up sometime in the future
