What you need to do is put the controll arm in a fixed position so when you apply this specail tool it doesn't go anywhere. Then you hit the ball joint from the top so your are hitting it down out of the controll arm, then insert the new ball joint from the bottom and hit upwards until it seats. That is how I did mine.
