Changing motor mounts today-how hard?

I am changing the motor mounts today. Am I going to have a problem? All I have is jack stands and a floor jack. What do i need to do? I have never done this on a 5.0. SHould I just take it to a shop or should i take it on?

it i s something that you can do your self. the hard part is lifting one side of the engine then the other to get the mounts out. please dont jack the engine up buy the oil pan. hopefully you have a friend helping you do this, it makes it alot easier. Are you switching to poly mounts

no-- just planning on putting in autozone mounts.

It is a job that you can tackle. Not too hard.

There is one big nut to unbolt it from the K-Member then 2 bolts to the block that need to come off for each mount.

Just take your time, you will get it.

If you are getting ones from Autozone "BE SURE TO GET MOUNTS FOR A CONVERTIBLE!" .

They are stronger than the stock replacement ones.

Kev, I think you skipped over the year of his stang (if his sig is right). By 93 the mounts were all captured (aka vert mounts).

Jrichker has a pretty nice write up on doing mounts. Most of us have written up long posts on doing them, so a search should be useful.

i just did mine last month, took me mabye 40min. but i had an impact,

things to watch out for:

fan shroud needs to be unbolted

both motor mounts should be unbolted before motor lifting

and if you dont have air tools, then get goood penetrating lube

The mount nuts are very tight and you will need a ½” drive universal joint and a 7/8” socket to get them off. SAVE the NUTS –you will need to check to see if they will fit the new mounts – mine didn’t. Put a 2x4 under the oil pan and pump up the hydraulic jack until it starts to lift the engine. Mark everything Left and Right when you take it off, as the new mounts may not be marked and it is very difficult to eyeball the and tell them apart. Pump the jack up way high – watch for clearance and slack in wiring, vacuum lines, etc, (the cat converters didn’t clear on my 89GT) and use some wood blocks between the headers/engine and the frame. You may want to check the rear transmission mount while you are under the car

Mine took 5 mins, but my engine was out. The only hard part for you would be lifting it up, but I think having a helping hand or and extra set of eyes to help will make the difference.

I put mounts from a convertible on my car. Theyre stronger. (I believe 92-3 gt's used them also)
