Changing rear seal on T5Z

Looking for some info on changing the rear seal on my t5z. I know i drop the drive shaft will i be able to tap in a new seal at that point or should i remove the tail shaft? I'd apperciate if someone can give me some steps and pointers on what to expect while doing this. Thanks

drop drive shaft, pull out old seal put in new seal. You can just tap one in with a hammer and a punch/screw driver, just do light taps and and go in a circle. I would check out your yoke and see if it has a groove in it. The play between the yoke and the bushing in the tail shaft causes a lot of rear tranny seals to go bad. You would need to pull the tail shaft off for that though. have fun

One more thing I would do is put some RTV on the seal where it meets the tail housing. They are known to leak there also. No need to remove the tailshaft.
