Changing wheels?

Ok well i plan on getting some new rims for my 88 stanger which I bought. Right now I have the 14" ones on it. I was thinking getting the 4 lug 16x7 ponies. Now am I going to have the car raised to put those on? Or should it be fine the way it is? It hasn't been lowered previously.

You will not have to lift it at all, just swap them, you'll be fine.

If you don't know, you just don't know. When I first wanted to put an exhaust on my car when I got it 3 years ago, I didn't understand why I need a y-pipe to run duals; or that it was an I4, I thought it was a V4.

True, if you don't know, you don't know, but Christ, go out and look at your cars every once in a while. A V4? Didn't you ever open the hood?

I know I and others take it for granted that we have been doing "this" since before sites like the Corral were even started, so we already know the "basics" without thinking. Still though, I would do some reading on my own and actually looking at my car before asking MANY of the questions that are asked here. You can pick up a lot of stuff simply by looking at catalogs, even magazines. Though these days it seams really silly to read a magazine for tech, but I still get more mags than I would admit to simply for entertainment.

Its just that someone told me that you would have to raise the car in order for them to fit. I didn't think so, I just wanted to double check.

The tires on the 16'' rim should have a lower profile than your 14'' rims. So the overall circumfrence will be pretty close.

As stated, the overall diameter of the tires are the same. Bigger rim+shorter tire=same diameter.

I have to agree, basic knowledge is a must. there used to be a bunch of tech articles on this forum, but since it crashed they all disapeared. but to find some tech about the cars and their motors, just look at the websites that most of us on here have, some have more tech than others. then also there is Google'ing for "2.3 turbo ford" that should bring up all kinds of stuff.


as for the magazines, I have to argue that rarely do they actually have anything that is usefull. at the end of their articles I am left still scratching my head wanting more information or just more confused than before. mags like mm&ff have a bunch of cloned cars and for the most part do not suport our category of cars. LOL we really need to restart the "Per4mance Fords magazine". If anyone ever gets interested again, please count me in, I will try and do what I can to help it mature.
When I pick up mags off the shelf it is usually to check out the new parts and ideas and see if they can somewhow work for my aplication (usually not), or just for something to look at.

You have a good point, but even if I popped the hood, I would have had no idea. All I ever heard of was V6, V8, V10. I never heard of an I4, sure it makes sense now that I know and look at the engine and actually understand an engine, but since I didn't I just figured it would be a V4. I have learned an immeasurable amount of things since joining here (and asking dumb questions)and subscribing to magazines; but I'm sorry to say when I was 15, with my first car and having never examined an engine, I did not know it was an I4.
