charging issues

so my 1979 mustang is having problems charging the battery i had bought a new alternator and it was charging fine then my battery went bad then i replaced that but then it jus quit charging i found the connector for the wiring that comes from the alternator to the wiring harness n one side was fried like way black so i eleminated that just connected the wires straight threw but then it still didnt charge so then i bought a regulator and it still doesnt charge. the voltage stays at 12.17. so idk what to do anymore. anyone have any clues? is it the wiring? if so what do i do idk where to find the wiring to replace it
