CHARGING

sounds like the alt may be the issue..I'd pull it and get it tested, next look at the wiring to see if anything is fried or worn/broken. The alt should show 13-14 volts at idle with few or no accessories running to make me happy.

What does it indicate at 1000 RPM? The stock gauge isn't the best, you should use a digital voltmeter to do the checking. If you are putting out 14 volts at 1000 RPM, the pulleys may be the problem, or your battery is weak.

Agreed. FWIW, a car has trouble not stalling at the voltage values noted (if that was battery voltage).

battery is old, but starts the car fine. all lights are good at 1200rpm. going to try new battery an cables. thanks!
Five minutes spent with a digital voltmeter to test the alt output or have the auto parts test your charging system is a bettter use of your time & money. Don't throw parts at a problem in hope of fixing it. You'll just get poorer and more discouraged.
