Cheap Cold Air

***I already know the stock setup is cold air, but when I bought the car it had a beat up K&N cone clamped right to the MAF next to the alternator, so it needs something else***

I was hoping a few people could post good or bad experiences (relating to fit and quality) of any ebay purchased CAI systems. If you happen to know ebay seller names or the "brand" you bought, that'd be good too. Thanks.

I can say this, stay away from those cheap kits on eBay...the ones that sell for $15 with a $45 shipping cost. Pretty much all those cheaps kits suck...as I have seen many of them, including the POS I bought.

My problem was the same as yours, I didn't have the stock setup so I needed something to get my intake out of the engine bay. I bought one of those cheap kits on eBay...against the advice of everyone I know...and it was a waste of money. The biggest problem I see is with the 90 degree bend coming from the throttle body. The angle is such that the corner of the bend hits the shock tower, dents, and eventually works itself loose...allowing in unmetered air.

I eventually went with the stock inlet tube and parts of a kit a friend of mine took off his Mustang. The funny part was he spent like $150 on this well known kit, that consisted of PVC. I literally went to Home Depot and found all the exact peices...for a total of $12.

If you don't have the stock setup, then you could always use the stock accordian tube, MAFS, and a DIY bend to put the filter in the fender well. It is cheap, easy, and fits your needs.

Just put a stock box back on, with a k&n in it.
Plenty good for your car. And should cost nearly nothing, and possibly free.

If you are hell bent against that, the densecharger by demolet motorsports and the moroso kits are decent and can be found fairly cheap.

I went to home depot and got a rubber 3inch 90 attached it to maf and went through the oval hole in to the fender well, then took a 90 pvc to angle it down and clamped the filter to that. Only cost like $12 and works great!

i bought an ebay CAI and it rocks

sure its cheap and i had to cut a little of the pipe where it meets the TB.
but nothing even remotely close to justifying spending 100$more for a bbk or other big name one.

i reccomend it, i mean its a metal tube and rubber, there isnt much u can mess up.

heres some pics of mine

i think mine was the wickidcarparts seller, i think it was a differnt name when i got mine this past christmas, but its the same picture so i think its the same one.

i think i am happier i bought the cheapy, i mean honestl it doesnt do much, only big change is u can hear air sucking up and maybe a small power increase.

but if i payed 150+ for one it would suck. buying the cheapy is better i think. its the same thing

i got a Ebay CAI. it was one of those $20 deals with like $30 shipping. it came with all the hardware, the tubes, hoses and filter...not bad for $50. i specified red filter when i ordered and black hoses. when i got it, blue filter and blue hoses. i emailed the company- no response. i called the company- no response. done this for about 2 weeks and then reported it to ebay and paypal. paypal ended up reimbursing me for the $$ i spent, canceled the sellers account and i got to keep the CAI.

not exactly how i planned for it work out but i got a free CAI out of it. not a bad lookin piece, its polished tubing with soft bends. im not too worried about the fitment. if we have to modify it some, no $ lost.

i would just beware about ordering a 'cheapo' off ebay...

I have the UPR intake and it looks almost identical to FoxFan's. Filter might be different but for 100 bucks more... I was in the same boat as you without the stock air box and a conical K&N. It really cleans up the engine bay and now i have a good spot for my MSD.
