Hey guys:

I put a Steeda CAI on my mom's BF's 07 GT. Check engine light came on and he said it lost power on the highway. Wouldn't go over 1500 rpm. He pulled over shut down the motor, restarted and now all is good except check engine light.

Is this just the computer "figuring out" the new setup?

Also:

I have a full exhaust except headers going on this Sat and I got a canned tune from brenspeed. I think this may get rid of the check engine light. Yes? I was told to wait to do the canned tune until after the exhaust was on.

Thanks in advance!

You need a tuner such as a Diablosport Predator or an SCT X-Cal II along with a tune designed for that intake.
Doug at Bamachips can hook you up. His tunes rock.
The S197's are very sensitive to any changes.
You are going from a 83mm intake tube to a 95mm which screws up the MAF telling it you're not flowing a lot of air so it cuts fuel sending it into failsafe.

Steeda's new Cold Air Kit for the S197 produces the greatest power gains of any Cold Air Kit on the market. Testing has shown increases of up to 38 HP and 30 ft lbs of Torque to the rear wheels with Steeda's Cold Air Kit combined with our Custom SCT Tune.

Steeda's lifetime filter can be cleaned and re-oiled, but the big news here is that we've streamlined the airflow in the S197 Mustang to the point that a computer re-flash isn't just an option, it's required! Check out the SCT XCalibrator 2 - the perfect tool for the job, or the new Steeda Predator with Custom Tunes!

The kit is supplied with a stainless steel air box with built-in velocity stack. It mounts in the factory location with the supplied rubber trim to seal it against the hood & fender to keep the hot air out . Our tests showed inlet temps a mere 5 degrees above ambient temperature. The Steeda Lifetime Filter can easily be cleaned and re-oiled, making maintenance a snap. All hardware required for installation is included in the kit.
Get the Kit: Steeda's all new complete Cold Air Intake system replaces everything from the throttle body forward. Now available together for one low price.

*Note: Use of Steeda's Cold Air Intake REQUIRES a tune under any application, which is sold separately.

Independent test results have proven gains of over 4 HP and 5 ft/lbs of Torque over the so called 'leading brands'.

Used by the top tuners in the industry.

"SCT has seen the highest performance results while using Steeda's Cold Air Kit, over any other brand." - Chris Johnson, President of SCT Tuning "

Everything you've stated is correct except for the Steeda MAF size ?...It's actually 90mm in diameter and not 95mm Only the C&L racer intake and the DeMolet tunable induction offer the 95mm MAF housing at the present time.

with these cars most of the intakes require a retune or they will go into failsafe.
