Hi,
I am new here and not too mechanically inclined, but I have the check engine light on and an OBD-2 reader that is getting "linking error". I have read that it is "CAN protocol" and I need a different/special reader for this. Can anyone shed some light on this? I've tried searching here, but haven't found anything on it. It is a 2005 V6 stock--nothing special...except for me, I guess...

thanks,
ryan

Have you installed any intake or exhaust parts?
run it over to Autozone and have them read the code for you. Or use your tuner if you have one.

Yes your ODB reader must be able to read CAN protocol

haven't installed anything. i just figured something was different since i can use the reader on another older vehicle of mine, but not the mustang. i'll take it to autozone. they just let you use a reader there? seems a shame to drop $200 on a reader that may tell me to tighten my gas cap.
