Check Fuel Door warning on instrument cluster

Have a 2001 with the V6. This warning light has suddenly come on and will not go off. I checked the fuel door and cap and they are both fine. Is this something related to the engine itself as I didn't see any sort of sensor or wires on/near the fueld door or gas cap. My GF just bought the vehicle at 55,000 miles and do not have an owner's manual for it. Thanks for any assistance.

code takes several cycle to reset

go to autozone and have it cleared, if it comes back replace the cap, if it comes back again you have a vacuum leak in the fuel sys

Happened to my dads 00 V6, its the fuel cap, its not holding the correct vacuum/pressure on the tank. you could always unplug your battery for 30-45 minutes to see if something happened and it was a freak thing...that will reset everything.
