Hey guys , I have a 1989 GT with original motor. Oil has been changed reguraly and everything is fine. However about six months ago the check oil light came on and won't go off. Oil was just changed and the shop didn'w know how to turn it off. I heard it might be a sensor that is loose. Any help to get it off would be appreciated, I have the car up for sale and trying to explain that the light just came on to potential buyers is always awkward . Thanks again

double check the oil level. the oil change places such as jiffy lube and such dont always fill your car up. there have been numerous lawsuits against them for that.

something stupid but it maybe the problem.

The dipsticks are often mismarked. We often do an oil change (FL1A and 5 quarts), after which we start it for a minute and then shut it off. Check the level after it sits overnight and remark the dipstick. My new full mark is up towards the letters in the word "Full" on the stick.

The sensor is on the side of the pan. It should be able to be disconnected and the light be off. I have not tried this however.

Good luck.

I took mine out because it was leaking through the electrical wires. Most of the time it is off, but sometimes it comes on... really kind of puzzling, lol.
