If you've never seen this type of scam, BEWARE of it!!

So I was looking on Autotrader the other day and came across a 93 Cobra with low mileage (16240) and a very low price ($2950). I emailed him and, assuming the guy made a mistake in the listing, say:

"I think you made a mistake in the price, b/c if that's the price then I'll take two."

Well, low and behold here is the series of emails that follow; with an ebay auction # (that doesn't exist):

Hello,
Sorry for delay but I was in a little trip with my family. I have ended my
auction because I have received about 310 e-mails (in 5 days) from people
who want to buy the car and I rally don’t want to west my time. The car is
located in Saint Cloud MN with 16240 miles on board, in excellent running
and body condition, no flaws on it or any other mechanical problems. It has
a clear title and it will be signed and notorized on your name as soon as
the payment will be completed.
Regarding payment I am aware of the buyer's protection and we will use
eBay's motors vehicle purchase protection program which will hold the
payment until you receive the car. ..... The total price including shipping
cost is $2,950..
By sending your payment to eBay you are not buying the car, is just the way
the program works (and in case you buy the car it will give you a 1
month/1000 miles guarantee). However, it is 100% refundable if the car is
not as described.
The car will be inspected and evaluated by eBay's team so there is no need
to ask me about it's condition as long it will be a guaranteed purchase by
eBay. If you are still interested for this car please let me know your full
name and adress and I will forward the details to eBay motors.
Thank you,
Joel

Do you have a phone number where I can reach you?

Hello again,
I don't have time to call every potential buyer who gives my his cell #
(that is why I make this deal through ebay). The car will be inspected and
evaluated by eBay's team so there is no need to ask me about it's condition
as long it will be a guaranteed purchase by eBay. So if you are interested
to buy my car please let me know your full name and your full address and I
will make all the necessary arrangements with eBay Motors and they will
send
you the invoice for our transaction.
Thank you, Joel

I have cash in hand and want to talk to you before I do the deal. Sorry, but
no phone number, no deal.
Thanks,
Matt

After a little map quest research, I figured I'd tell the guy I was close to him:

I'm in Sauk Rapids, MN! I would like to arrange a time to see/pick the car
up. I will give you cash in hand when I take delivery! What address is the
car at? Hopefully we can get this done this week.
Thanks,
Matt

Hey Joel,
As I stated, I have money in hand and will come pick the car up. No need for
some ebay inspection team. Just let me know where the car is and I can be
there within 1 hour.
Thanks,
Matt

Hey Joel,
Where are you? Haven't heard from you. I want to come pick up this car. I
will give you a money order for $10,000 for the $2950 price. You can keep
$5000 and just give me $5000 plus the car. Sound good? Also does the car have
an original chevy 350 engine??
Thanks,
Matt

That last quote is yours, not his right?

Why do all these idiots sound so retarded? WHO WOULD FALL FOR THAT!? You'd think if you were going to scam people you'd sound as smart and on-the-money as possible.

Gotta love the ebay inspection team :rlaugh:

Yup, fixed it, thanks. I know there are scammers but who in their right mind won't think something is up with a mint 93 cobra with only 16,240 miles for a mere $2950?! Just Dumb!!

Because it's English as a second language. The dude's probably in Russia or Belarus or Romania or some other god-forsaken place waiting to dispatch his crack eBay inspection team.:bs:

I had a similar situation. I found one on autotrader it was a 93 Red Cobra with 80k on it for $5500. It was mint probably a couple pics of one with 20k on it. But long story short it was suppose to be about two hours away then he tellsme its in a whole different state and he will ship it or something. Then when I told him I will come pic it up he was in the Navy or something then never replied to me lol.
