87 gt 358W was going with a heavy c-6 now i want a t-5 setup... This isnt a race car, just a sunny day cruiser...maybe squeel a tire now and then to impress the ladies. My problem is that i have a 4:10 rear end in it. What are things i should watch for (ie. not going over 60mph) or something like that... it's a rebuilt t-5 but really how durable is this thing going to be? new king cobra clutch as well. I have gotten quite a bit of help from stangnet and i always appreciate the info.... Also, is there a 5 speed that would fit in a fox that would be more durable? As you can see i'm new to the building cars game, lol damn is it expensive...

Anyway thanks in advance to everyone

Derek

A t5 will hold up behind it for some time as long as your not powershifting or side stepping the clutch. The king cobra isn't a bad clutch either... A little heavy but there's worse choices out there. As for the rear gears... Expect to turn some fairly high rpms at highway speeds(3k at 80ish mph). I also wouldn't put to sticky of tires on it though, that t5 definetly want last long if you start hooking really well.

Have you dyno'd the motor or car yet? I don't think the T5 is rated for much over 300 crank HP if memory serves, I think it's acually more like 270 for a WC. I found a chart once, but I didn't save the link. As said before, as long as you baby it, it should last, but with a bored or stroked 351 like you have, who wants to baby the trans.

Tranny's are rated of torque. A wc will handle 350 all day if it is not abused.

Way stronger but also you are looking at probably 3x the cost to get one compared to a T5.

+1... you would be much happier overall with a tko500...but your wallet/wife might not be.

Im still using the t5 that came with the 2.3. I just cruise it I occasionally get up on it but its been a year and hasnt grenaded yet. I figured if I was going to end up getting a trans might as well use what I have for now.
