Checking Gear Ratios

I was wondering if there was any way of telling what kind of gears you were runnin without opening up the rear end. I've been curious ever since i bought her since the speedo is about 10mph slower than what it says, (i.e. 30mph is actually 40mph). Shes definitley got posi already checked that much so the gears arent stock...but not sure what i'm runnin

Wow, I sure am glad you asked this question. I don't think has been covered for at least 2 or 3 days now. The SEARCH button is located at the top of every page.

In any case. Jack the back of the car up and put it on jackstands. Put the tranny in neutral and rotate the driveshaft while watching the tires. Count the number of times the driveshaft rotates for every 1 time the tires rotate. If the driveshaft rotates every 3+- times you have 3.08s. Every 3-1/4 times = 3.27. Every 3-1/2 times = 3.55. Every 3-3/4 times = 3.73. Every 4+- times = 4.10. etc...

yeah like that...also if they are stock still you can check the tag in the door panel.

yeah my bad guys after i posted this thread i used the search button and found a calcualtor for it. I would of deleted it but couldnt find the button...my bad
