I'm not usually the one to start the whole mustang vs. camaro argument but chevy is really annoying. Chevy loves to pick on the mustang gt don't they. When it comes to economy Chevy brags about how the Camaro v6 gets more mpg than mustang gt. When they start on the Camaro SS performance they also put it up against the gt. But, I guess I would do the same thing if I was trying to revive a dead car. Thanks for letting me vent. Who else is with me on this?! lol.

Doesn't really bother me much.

The Mustang has always been the top dog, even if it wasn't always faster in a straight line. The Mustang has had nearly 46 years of non-stop production, while the Camaro had 35 years and went on hiatus, and is just now coming back.

I like the new Camaros, and I see them as an asset to the domestic muscle car game rather than a threat, especially with the 2011 GT having SLIGHTLY less horsepower, but with less weight as an advantage.

I'm glad I can walk into a Ford, Dodge, or Chevy dealership and walk away with a fast, great looking modern muscle machine. I seriously doubt Ford will be knocked out of the park at this point in the game... even when the Mustangs were sporting 260hp and 302tq at the time where the LS1 F-bodys were 320hp and 340tq or whatever the Mustang still came out on top.

But as always... the new Camaro will be a super stout performer that will respond RIDICULOUSLY well to bolt ons, and type of cam swap or head work, and a tune. The Mustang will be behind in that category, as always, even with the new 5.0 under the hood.

Car and Driver had a '99 Mustang GT vs. '99 Camaro Z28 battle (you can youtube it) and in their eyes the Camaro took the win, due to more balls at the pedal, among other things. HOWEVER, at the end they pointed out that, despite their opinion, the Mustang GT STILL easily outsells the Camaro and Firebird platforms COMBINED.

I've owned both, and despite a noticeable power loss (as you would expect going from 5.7L to 4.6L ha) I find the Mustang to be a much more LIKEABLE platform, and I believe that will hold true for years to come. Despite the lower HP numbers, I enjoy the drive in my Mustang MUCH more.

With that said... I gotta admit I still drool a little bit when I see a brand new orange Camaro SS.

Yeah, I always thought the comparisons of the V8 Camaros to the Mustang GT were skewed...OF COURSE the Camaro is gonna have more horsepower to it when it's got a good 1.1 liter advantage over the GT!!

Would've been nice to see the sizes more evened out.

And they're still at it with the new ones. I mean, heck, Ford was the one to start it all...the Camaro was Chevy's answer to the Mustang...so the Camaro can never be what the Mustang is in heritage.

you will always get picked on by Camaros , its almost amusing to see them constantly brag about beating a car with a smaller engine , then disrespect it , superiority complex you see , but i guess if roles were different we would dis them even more since they will be slow and FUGLY

I agree OP that Chevy gas mileage comparison commercial is very deceptive and misleading.

I'd take a 2011 GT over a 2010 SS and day of the week.

I think most people in real life respect like each brand, and they're a lot of people that have both chevy and Ford vehicles, as I do.

On paper, the camaro almost always looks like a better buy. It's still up to the consumer.

This is competition. And this will happen, but its a good thing. Folks, if we didnt have it and if it werent for the camaro we may not be getting this new 5.0 in the mustang. Ford would have very little reason to. They have been able to slack in the power department for a long time.

Remember, the mustang isnt going anywhere. Let chevy do the trash talking. They have they're own right to, they are putting out a nice car. Ford has a massive fan base in the end, and hundreds of thousands of people who love their mustangs and will continue to buy them. Need not worry.

I saw somewhere that the new Camaro had 62 TSB's within the first couple months of production? That sounds like alot even though I'm not sure what a normal number would be.

Some of the camaro's look good (depending on paint an options) some look ugly. I bought one in the 80's an had nothing but problems with it. 3 of the 4 gm's I've owned in my life had constant problems. I've had good luck with fords, especially the mustangs. The stang is much easier the live with than a f body. I do like the horsepower wars starting up. Now if ford would make a solid performing irs that doesn't weigh a ton.

Completely agreed. I like a nice, well rounded vehicle, regardless of make. That's why I like the Mustang and not the Camaro (LS1's anyway). I rode in a 2002 Trans Am, and yes, it is faster, there's no comparison to a 2v Mustang. But the Mustang is much more smooth and solid ride; the sound system is better; the interior is better; and to me, the Mustang is much better looking.

Although I'd say quite the opposite when comparing a Powerstroke and a Duramax. I'd take the Chevy all day in that case.

It all depends on the vehicle and year model. In the case of the 2010 Camaro vs 2011 Mustang: the Mustang is still ahead in looks, handling, interior, etc, but now it also competes in the power department. Therefore, Mustang all day long.

Don't forget that the Camaros with the automatic transmissions only have a 400 hp engine. Not sure what the mix of autos to manuals is but something to keep in mind.

Well I have both. I drive the stang cause the wife likes the camaro more, & she says the stang has too much power. Oh ya just how a stang should be. Hard to handle.

I love both. Camaro is fun in the twistys and the stang is the powerhouse. Maybe one day I will have the money to fix each one of their down falls. The rivalry is fun to me. Every time I pull up to a camaro when I am in the stang I mess with them and vise versa. Honest its a blast.

Well put. I'd take a Ford car anyday of the week. I love my Mustang, and had an '03 Focus ZX3 a while back and it was a great car. However when it comes to a fullsize truck, I back GM all the way. The F-Series has never been an appealing platform to me. Fullsize GM trucks in my areas FAR outweigh any other pickup in the same way that Mustangs FAR outweigh other makes of muscle cars.

One of my big beefs with my Camaro (93-02 specific) was the 45 foot long dash and nose, and I never have been a big fan of the "roll bar" style roof setup with an odd-shaped backglass rather than having quarter glasses. I never had a lot of faith in the car in general, felt kind of fragile to me, and unsure of itself. The Mustang and I might as well have the same blood type.

Mustangs of late, generally are regarded as a car that you can commute with on daily basis and still have a fun weekend jaunt, whereas the Camaro was usually not as pleasant as a DD but a car that brought you back to your juvenile years on the weekend.

I believe that you may be correct with your assumption. It takes a push for Ford to step up their power plants and I too believe that the Camaro helped make the 5L dream come alive for the 2011 'Stang.

It really bugs me how the Chevy guys Hate so much on Fords, we don't get any respect or slack for that matter...I prolly would never buy a camaro but I still think its a great car and don't sling **** about them...its just not my kinda car!

I agree with what peaople are saying.

I like both the 'maro and 'stang in their own respects.

While I woulf love to own a new Camaro, now that the new mustang got the 5.0 back I'd take it over the bowtie. The mustang has a more sophisticated engine(not necessarily a good thing) and better quality materials/less weight.
