There are GT's running 11's with as much HP as a stock LS1. If you want to go around bragging about your car with dyno sheets, then get the LS1. More HP doesn't always necessarily mean that you're going to be faster. Take Bob Cosby, for example, who is running low 11's with his near stock 99 Cobra (8.8 swap).

Wjfawb0 is more in line with what I'm trying to say. Why sell a car that is already fast, get a slower one only to have to drop 4k to get where you were. That doesn't make any sense. It just sounds like staring over again when it isn't needed. Of course the Mustang is a great car or I wouldn't own one or be doing this instead of my work! I'm just saying it would be a real waste of money to turn around and try to build something that you already had.

If you get a GT the blower route is the cheapest way to get past the 300rwhp mark. By the time you do all the easy bolt on mods to get to 260rwhp, you could have purchased a mongoose kit from Cobra Killer and be making 350rwhp. The sheer number 99-04 GTs running a centrifugal with the steeda tune or one of Cobra Killers' tunes without problems (hundreds) speaks for itself. It only takes about $4000 to turn a stock 01-02GT into a 350rwhp supercharged GT if you can handle the install. You can get 380rwhp out of a near stock windsor block 99-00GT with the lower 9:1 compression (compared to the 9.4:1 01-04GT).

However, it sounds like to me that the used 01-02 SS is what you would be most happy with. You get the fast car to start with that only needs intake, exhaust, cams to get down the track in less than 12 seconds.

Only problem is with basic bolt ons and driving Im faster than most of those guys. You ran 12.97 in your Cobra man, I ran 12.98 in my 2V bolt on car.

There is something to be said about you as a driver when you hit 12s NA. Doing it with a PA and it's like ok another blown GT hit 12s whoopy.

Of course it makes sense. He's going from a catfish...oops, I mean Camaro.... to a stang. He may spend a bit more $$$ on a GT, but he's still in a Mustang as opposed to a Slowmaro...oops, I mean Camaro

Yeah but that "bit more" is close to the price of some used 'Stangs. If anyone is going to do what is proposed here I would then say buy a used one where someone has already dumped a ton of cash in to the car. There is no shortage of people who have put a lot of money in a car and now have to sell it. Of course there is always the GTO option but I don't even want to get started on that.

hmm

For the kind of money you are looking to spend, I'd buy a 1996 LT4 Corvette. I've seen low mileage, clean models going for about 17 to 18k. You'll get a nicer looking body, better engineering, suspension, handling, and power. An LT4 dynos at about 305rwhp and has run the quarter in as low as 12.74 seconds stock. I typically see them pulling a 13.0-13.2. I used to be in the market for an F-body or Stang, but went with a 'vette because the total package is far superior to any LS1 or 4.6l.

Just a thought.

That also depends on weather conditions. Weather can be as much as a factor as driving.

there has to be some reason that we all love our mustangs so much, despite the powere difference from the camaro. looks i believe is a huge factor. there are tons of aftermarket goodies to make the stang look a lot better then it does stock.(bodykits, saleen, saleen, roush) not to much for the camaro, is there? i never see anything and when i do it don't look so good.

first off, who ever said that the 03 cobra is the first car that can match the ls1, and the stang has a blower so....well the mach can handle a ls1 just fine. im not doubting the ls1 power at all, their both super fast if u ask me.

and if you put 4,000 dollars in a stang u would not end up where you started off with the ss, the 4,000 dollar blown stang would be rippen up all the ls1 in town, including some vettes.

Why will no one consider what the LS1 will do with a blower? All I've heard about here is what the Mustang will do with forced induction. Well, if that brings it up to the LS1 then what does the LS1 do with the same mods like a SC, exhaust, maybe some head work? I'll tell you what it does. It kicks ass. Even better, what would a blown 'Vette do with those mods. You would see any blown GT out run, turn, or stop it. Take the same money and put it in to the car that is already faster and it will stay ahead of the game. I know this is a Mustang board and I'm not knocking the car at all but I think there are some closed minds around here.

Actually, I ran a 12.4@114 in my Cobra with 431rwhp STD. That was my first time ever drag racing in any car in my whole life. Regardless, I think this guy is asking about the cars potentials and driver skill has nothing to do with what the car can run. Just like a few good drivers can get 12.8 times on a stock 03 Cobra but Hotrod magazine can't break into the 12s.

Here is how I did for my first day racing:

60’ 2.550
1/4 13.733
MPH 110.02

60’ 2.209
1/4 13.185
MPH 110.33

60’ 2.329
1/4 13.208
MPH 111.22

60’ 2.229
1/4 12.945
MPH 112.93

60’ 2.200
1/4 12.988
MPH 112.92

60’ 2.111
1/4 12.841
MPH 112.03

60’ 2.261
1/4 12.971
MPH 111.92

60’ 2.128
1/4 12.741
MPH 112.93

60’ 2.011
1/4 12.431
MPH 114.28

Let me try a few more times with some good tires and power shifting. I should be able to get into the 11s, maybe even low 11s with my power and off the line torque.

Think about which one you'll have more fun in. Anyone can make a car go fast, it's been done thousands of times. But if you get a daily driver that all you want to do is make it faster than the other guy, you won't be happy with it 90% of the time when you're just driving to work.

Go test drive a new 5-speed GT, don't tromp on it or anythin but just drive it like you're out for a cruise. Then make your decision

well This was the same exact situation i was in 3 weeks ago, and you can see what i picked i had a 98 z28 vert 6spd with exhaust, lid, maf, pulleys, gears, ftra, headers and the car was a BEAST. once i learned how to achieve traction i was running 12.4@112mph all day in a 98 vert..no cam/no heads..stock N/A engine with bolt-ons. the 01-02's are even quicker. but too bad i replaced 6-7 window motors in the cars lifetime. rack & pinion went bad, tons of noises from the rear, and the car was not comfortable. i was going to get another ls1 insurance what considerably cheaper for the GT through our insurance company. So i took a test drive and i loved the stock growl. I purchased a 2002 triple black gt vert 5spd and i love it. maybe the power isnt there but the comfort is, alot better gas mileage, and its capable of looking damn good. my car will be dropped on chrome 18's with a saleen lightbar, bodykit. and it will be a beautiful thing. Only power mods I will be doing will be the slp loudmouth exhaust + xpipe (which is in the mail) and some gears. and maybe a shifter. in in 1-2years if funds are available i will throw on a supercharger. but the bottom line is, get what you like driving, sure the ls1 is a freak in power, your comparing a 230rwhp car to a 295rwhp car...but the mustang offers that "nice feeling" not to mention the quality of ford is alot better then gm "CRAP".

I had a 02 Z28 A4 2.73 and ran 13.0 at 108.Fast for a stock car. But it was faster to fall apart.Found needle bearings in the oil pan from the rockers.Needed a new motor.I loved the speed the car produced, the power 311 at the wheels, but I forgot all that when the motor started ticking. Now I own my 5th mustang.Speed isnt everything.Especially in a daily driver.Buy the way the Z28 was stock. My GT ran 14.0 stock.Much slower but much more reliable. The quality even though not great is much better than the Z28.
