child seats in a classic mustang

greetings stangneters anyone out there ever put a child seat tether anchor in their classic mustang?My little mustanger will be joining me (this coming summer)for many a cruise and I'd love to have him securely seated in his child seat......so if anyone has done it I'd like to hear from you...............many thanks

I use the seatbelt through the same route the belt for the latch belt. It is a little harder to get tight, but should be every bit as safe. I am not sure what I will do next year. He will possibly be too big for the 5 point harness built into his car seat. I may have to put in a rear shoulder harness. How old is your child?

my little guy's only two ...and I'm thinking of the rear shoulder harness too his safety is a big concern to me so I'm looking to do this right they just didn't think of these things in the sixties my biggest hurdle is to anchor the top of his car seat to the rear panel once he's grown enough to use a booster seat this won't be an issue but he's holding his growth spurts to a minimum these days LOL thanks brianj5600 for your help

You may want to consider replacing the current rear seat/trunk divider w/ a metal one (since your gas tank is your trunk floor). The one in the link is not designed as firewall protection.

I could almost swear, though, that I've seen one before that is designed as a fire safety measure. IIRC, you can either install a shield over the tank itself on the floor, or behind the back seat. If I see it again, I'll post it. But here's a link to a metal divider, in case you're interested. I don't know what year/model Mustang you have, but this is for a 64-68 coupe.

BTW--Glad to see that you're introducing him to the cruising culture so early. I have a 3-year-old and another on the way, but unfortunately my Mustang is currently not in running condition.

I put a child seat in the car during this summer. I only did it after I installed 3 point rear seat belts. There is enough metal under the package try that you could attach or weld in a harness clip I think.

Here you go, lap belt through the seat works great, that thing isn't going anywhere. "daddy I want to fell it" was his quote each time a gave her a little throttle on take off...

I bolted an anchor in the middle of the package tray with a fender washer on the trunkside and position the seat in the centre. My rear seatbelts are configured so that the left male end goes through the child seat into the right female. the only downside is you can't take other passengers in the back (although that has never been an issue with me).

thanks to everyone for sharing their ideas.
I'll be out fitting all three 67/68 body styles if possible (coupe,fastback and convertible) I expect the convertible to be the most challenging one to do and the coupe the least.I looked at the package tray on the coupe.I'm sure a child tether kit from a 2003 mustang would work there.the fastback's going to take more reasearch not much metal at back glass to work with. convertible going to be the last one I do the child tether kit on. I hope my little guy turns out like ga289stocker's little guy and wants to" feel the car go"....without telling mommy of course LOL my daughter does that already LOL my sons hasen't yet developed the mustang lingo but everytime we are in the driveway together he knocks on the garage door and says " dada's muhtang"I'm only too happry to oblige a garage visit everytime he does that.

That's actually a full size creeper. He's only on about half of it. I was under the car when he went in my garage and found it then rolled under beside me. My wife saw and snapped the photo.
