chin spoiler instalition tips...

just ordered the chin spoiler, can u guys give me some tips on how to get the bends out so u cant tell it was ever bent, also some tips on putting it on...thanks

Apparently layig it flat overnight and then installing it will unbend it fully.

hairdryer or let it sit out for an hour. try to have at least 1, maybe even 2 friends help you. two people hold it in place while the other marks/or drills the holes. it takes some patience to get it right, because the sides and front dont want to line up perfectly. just did mine saturday. you'll love it.

Make sure the spoiler is flush with the bottom of the bumper...dont try to pull it in so its flush with the front fenders or it will look gay, if you set it in place correctly you will have a half inch space between the front of fender and the beginning of the spoiler...at least I did.

This is another one...Don't try and do it yourself

When marking and drilling, start from the center of the bumper and work outwards alternating left and right.

Do you mean align it to the wheel well or the bumper cover? What do fenders have to do with anything here?

1/2 inch off the edges of the bottom of the bumper cover...I didn't catch that one

I did it by myself. Taped it on with masking tape and moved it till it was right, then drilled the holes. Also used some ramps so I could get under the nose easier. Took about 20 minutes to get it aligned then pinned on.

when we did helty's, it lined up with the fenderwells and the front of the bumper.. flush with both

that took a bit of fanagaling, but it can be done. mines not perfect, but it looks good.

What's so bad about it not lining up with the front? I'd rather have it be a bit under the front fascia than not lining up with the wells...looks dumb as hell gapped from the wells IMO. To each his own though...

Yes, the factory ones are aligned on the wheel wells not the front bumper

Start I started my at one end and placed the first screw in making sure that the oval hole at the end on the chin was flush against the plastic screw so that it could not move forward during the installation. I then did the other side making sure the chin is flush with the bumber ending. Then I moved to the center holes and then pulled the chin flush all the way around the bumper. Then Chin should come in a large box 2 feet by 5 feet almost and there should be no unwanted bends in the chin itself. If you got a chin that is packaged in a small box rolled up, don't use it you will not be happy, go to Ford and get the correct part Part # 3R3Z*17626*AAA

i got mine folded in 3 and it looks just fine. just let it sit out over night or use a hairdryer. had no problems with the install. we actually got it damn near flush the whole way around.

That's what's wrong. Correct placement will have the chin spoiler with little or no space at the front of the wheel well and about 1/16" between the bottom of the bumper and the front of the spoiler. If you would have left the word "correctly' out of your post it would of been fine, still wrong, but fine. I have the actual item, so argue all you want, you'll still be wrong.

End of lesson, class dismissed.

Flush looks better and if he tried to line it up to the fenders it would have looked "poor". But thanks for posting how Ford did it.
