alright im about to get a 99+ GT and im up in the air on getting a 5 speed or auto...im not experienced on driving manuals but im sure i could learn and some people tell me it will be my biggest regret if i get an auto gt. how much drivetrain HP is lost using the ford auto transmissions and are how much faster are 5 speed GT's compared to autos in the quarter stock?

Ford has never really had great performance transmissions, at least in late model cars. That being said, the 4r70w (right?) is huge improvement over say the AOD(non-E) that was in the fox bodies.

Personally the Only thing I'll get an automatic in is a light duty truck or SUV. The control you have over the powertrain is much greater with the manual. Get the 5-speed, every guy has to learn to drive a standard sometime :D

so its obvious 5 speeds are were its at, but there is this 00 GT w/ an 01 hood fully loaded w/ leather interrior and low miles and a steal of a price(perfect for a college student) but its unfortunately an AOD...at the moment im just a college student and probably not going to do too much serious racing with the stang i get now. i just want that trademark stang sound w/ a full exhaust system (bassani). so if i make the biggest mistake of my life and get that AOD, how bad would i get dusted by 5 speed GT's and LT1s/LS1s with a good 2-3k invested (headers, pipes, cat backs, k&n FIPK, pullies, gears, and a couple more cheaper mods) or are yall just gonna keep the suspense and let me find out for myself?

oooops...my bad bd! havent done my research on transmissions but thanks for the clarification...well now that you have mentioned that, you wanna explain the differences between the two auto trannys? or give a website that will save your time...and like any other person who doesnt know about a subject i gotta ask, which is a better tranny?

Has this car been in an accident? You should ask for a Carfax on it. I say this because of the different hood. That is one explanation as to why it has a non standard hood.

A lot of the autos are a good price because no one wants them, lol.

Don't get caught up in the moment and get an auto at a "good price". You will find a manual at a "good price" eventually. Keep looking.

The same thing happened to me and I will forever be grateful that I waited and got my manual. Took a long time to find a manual for what I considered a "good price".

To each his own, however. :nice:

i did some free carfax record check on it and it said that there were 8 records found on the car which im guessing is bad news. i wanna see what exactly those 8 records are, but its like 25 bucks...what advice do ya got now betrayer?

Tell the seller that you want to see those 8 records, and if they are confident about the history of the car, they will show you.

If this is a dealer they prolly have an agreement with Carfax to provide the printout already, it is just if they want to show it to you or not, see?

If it is a private party, offer to split the fee, if you need to.

Just my $.02

How would they show you? If you asked me, i could not.

Those 8 records are not necessarily bad things. Every time the car is registered, or a title issued, or the car is inspected, it makes a record. Those 8 records could the the issue of title, registration, a few inspections and maybe sale to a 2nd owner and another inspection and new title. Nothing bad, but nothing an owner could necessarily reveal.

Post up the VIN number in a post saying "Could someone run me a carfax" Someone will do it for you and let you know what the records are.

Oh yeah, get a 5-spd. You will regret the automatic just simply because of the fact you are thinking about stick. Usually the only people who never regret getting 5-spd are the ones who cannot drive stick at all and therefor never had the option. The fact that you are debating it means you will regret it.

I drove stick very rarely before i got my GT. WHen i got it, it took me 3 days to master the art of driving the car with a 5-spd. A week later, i was confident enough to start driving cocky :D A month later, with the newness factor wearing off, the fact that the car is a 5-spd always brings back excitement. If it was an automatic, i'd be bored with it already.

thanks for all the advice yall! well the VIN # is 1FAFP42X9YF255154 ...if any of yall are subscribed and could get a CARFAX report on this car and let me know about the records id appreciate it...and for the record...a 5 speed is just too tempting...!

I meant that they would show you the carfax. What it cost them for the carfax is nothing next to what they make with the sale of the vehicle. That was what I meant.

WHat if it's a private sale? I know dealers have accounts, but if i asked the lady i bought my '03 GT from to give me a Carfax, she would not know what the hell i was talking about.

yea 25 bucks is pocket change towards a 10k+ investment...but i dont have that extra 25 in my bank account to subscribe at the moment...all cash doesnt always help ya out! so if anybody is subscribed and wouldnt mind helping an guy interested in getting a stang id appreciate it! that VIN # is 1FAFP42X9YF255154 if ya didnt catch it earlier in this thread...thanks

almost bought a 00GT spring edition with an auto, but i had never driven a manual and EVERYONE says to get one, so i did, mastered it and will never buy a auto again unless its like a truck or suv. I LOVE THE MANUAL
