I've been off the board for a while, but seeing as I just ordered my 347 stroker kit from CHP (probe racing), I figure my posts will be heating up. I'm trying to decide if I'm gonna go long tube headers or stick with the FRPP headers I have now that I ceramic coated. Any thoughts or insight as to Hp gained/clearance problems etc (1 5/8 vs 1 3/4)? I figured that since I'll have the engine out that it would be the right time if I was gonna do it..
Also, I currently have the Trick flow street intake..didn't do too well in a recent 5.0 mag 347 dyno.. I was considering porting it..or replacing it..anyone have thoughts on that???

get hooker 1 3/4 long tubes no doubt about it.

dont get 1 5/8 and get a header with a 3 bolt primary not a ball and socket at the end.

either get the holley systemax II intake or the RPM II. both will work great on the street and make good power.

what cam are you going to use?

that is a small cam for that combo... it would beeasy to sell your cam and pick up another. My friends have great luck with the comp xe282hr they are trapping 117-120s in their 347s.

Looks like your putting your 302 parts on the 347. I don't think a 1 3/4" header will help much. If your gonna stick with that combo, i'd probably say just pick up a set of 1 5/8" bbk LT's. I can see you making around 325rwhp. If you swap manifolds, a holley or rpm II is about perfect. That'll help, but w/o the right cam, it will still be restricted.

Something is only as good as it's weakest part...

Put 1 3/4" headers on the car, and the 2.5" exhaust system makes it pointless. Change the exhaust and you're staring a thousand bucks right in the face - not for 25 horsepower though.

If it were me, I'd get a better bumpstick with a bigger manifold. The exhaust you have can always be upgraded down the road, and probably won't limit you too bad...

Okay, well 325 is lower than I want. Does the can make that big a difference with a 347? Also, what's your take on my performer heads? I was thinking that they would be the biggest restriction with the 1.90 intake valves???

I guess that I'm gonna have to rethink some of this. I was planning on getting a port/valve job on the heads and thought that the cam might have enough duration to balance out the heads. I guess I'll have to take another look into my profile. Keep in mind this is a street car that will probably never see the strip...

thanks everyone for their frankness, its a tough pill to swollow, but better now than later. Suggestions for head, intake, cam?
Does anyone know if the Trick flow St Heat would be enough intake, that would let me buy just the top half and port my current bottom intake.
What would you look for in a street cam, regarding lift and duration?

The street heat is incredibly too small. Heres a suggestion. Keep your heads (just swap valve springs for the cam) run an edelbrock rpm II or a holley and an AFM n-71 cam. I think a 1 5/8" longtube would do fine for you, but a 1 3/4" will take you farther. If your looking to switch heads, look into a victor jr head. I'm not sure of your budget, but doing a full new induction isn't gonna be cheap.

I have some similar heads and was going to have 2.02 valves put in place of the 1.90s and the bowls blended and what not. I mean Oink is running the 1.90 edelbrocks on his turbo 347 and its makeing tons of power!

ok you have shorties? if you are on a budget... i would get some big shorties... look into afm i think they have them. they give up tons of midrange but unequal length shorties pull hard topend.

ditch your mufflers, they are horrible. grab some dynomax race bullets for 33 bucks a pop.

the track heat and the street heat will SUCK for your application.

i dont see exhaust costoing 1000 i am sorry. around here a used set of 1 /34 mac headers are 100-150 and you can run whatever x pipe you want for around 100-200.

Cam is a big issue. are those the revised edle heads? if not i would look into having them ported.

an example setup... a friend made 390/390 with his 347 afr 185s stystemax II and comp xe282, 1 5/8 LTs

I need to update my sig, I'm currently running Edelbrock SDT mufflers and love them. As for the heads, I'm looking at having Thumper in Jax go all out on them. My current cam has roughly .542/.542 lift and 218/226 duration. From what I've heard, I should up the duration but I am a little worried about vaccumm and drivability issues it I get toward the 240 range.

Go w/ 1 3/4 long tubes while you have the engine out. You can always upgrade the rest of your exhaust later.

Go w/ the RPM II intake.

If it matters, I dynoed 366 rwhp w/o the nitrous.

Good luck.
