Chrome wheels - maintenance?

Hi, my mustang is my only car, hence it is my daily driver. Becasue of this and having to drive in the snow(NJ) I am going to get 4 tires for the ice/snow with my current rims and put them on every winter. Therefore, I would like to get a nice set of rims to have on my tires for the other 9 months or so. Unfortunately I do not have a garage to park in. Will the rain, and other things from sitting outside all the time have a negative effect on the chrome. Also, how often do you have to polish/clean the chrome rims, could I get away with cleaning them once a week? Would i be wasting my money by getting chrome? I must have worded my question wrong. The chrome rims will not be exposed to winter weather. They will be on the car from april to october (so no snow). But will I have a problem keeping them on the car with the rain etc. of summer and the car not being in a garage? Thanks for the replies and any advice you can give me.
