OK, guys I have a 1999 35th Anniversary "Limited Edition" GT. If you are not familiar with it, let me explain my problem. The factory 17" wheels have a unique machined finish and have painted inserts. I have attached a picture. The wheels are overall in great shape however, the placement of the previous wheel weight(s) has caused the clear coating to flake(about size of dime) in that one spot at the very edge of the rim. Besides having the entire rim refinished, what can I do to keep the spot from getting bigger over time.

Hope I made sense.

Thanks for any input.

-Jason

You should be able to sand it and clearcoat it. Read this...

I don't know about the clear coat this person used. You can't use just any clearcoat paint. The problem is when you sand down a metal till it's very smooth (like 2000 grit smooth or finer), most clears don't stick too well and will peel or scratch off real easy. They have to be using some kind of special clear enamel meant for extremely fine alloys .. like polished aluminum.
