Ok if you have an engine that is supposted to have a 50oz flywheel and balancer on it and you put a 28oz flywheel and balancer on it it will vibrate right?

The reason I ask this is I had my 28oz fluidamper on it and put the new flywheel and clutch I got from a local guy on it and it vibrated bad. So I pulled the tranny thinking I may have put the clutch in wrong. Well it was in right. So I pulled the flywheel and put the old flexplate on it that came with the engine and its as smooth as silk.

So after saying all this is it safe to say that I need a 28oz flywheel? I have a t5 and a t5 bell so I'm going to need a 157 tooth 28oz wheel right?

First, counterbalance is based on the crank, not the damper and flywheel. If you have a 28 oz. crank, you have to use a 28 oz. damper and flywheel.

You have to match the damper and flywheel with the crank counterbalance. From your explanation above, I have no idea what you need. It sounds like you put a 28 oz damper with a 50oz flywheel. You also indicated you switched from a flywheel to a flexplate. I still don't know what crank you have. If it is a roller block, it is most likely a 50oz counterbalance. This explains why it ran like crap with the 28oz damper. If it is an earlier 302, then it could be a 28oz.

However, anything is possible. I have a 28oz. crank in a roller block. I had the rotating assembly balanced with a 28oz. damper and had my 50 oz. SFI flywheel machined to balance to 28oz.

Putting on the wrong balance weight flywheel and/or damper doesn't result in a vibration, it'll feel more like it'll shake itself to death. I did this with a 410 FE , put on a 390 flywheel and the stick shift on the granny gear 4 speed in the truck it was in became downright dangerous. :D If you've got a 79 crank, you need both a 28oz damper and flywheel.

Yeah, thanks for confirming what I already thought was true. I'm a little ticked right now as I called a clutch place up and told them I had a 79 302 and needed a flywheel and clutch. Well they give me a 157 tooth flywheel, I just assumed it was weighted 28oz right, wrong. I put it on and started the engine and it felt like I was sitting on one of those paint shakers at lowes :nonono: well thats when I put the old flexplate that came with the engine, was originally in an auto car, and it ran fine with the 28oz streetdamper on it.

I just wanted to make sure I get the right part since this damn place won't take their crap back as they say its the right part and I've already used it and they couldn't even tell me what weight it was!!!

With my above mods could somebody suggest where I can find a 28oz 157 tooth flywheel and appropriate clutch for my t5?
