heres what happens.

if im driving along my car will shift fine from first to second gear. now if i let off the gas as the AOD shifts to third gear i get a clunk at low rpm.

if im on the gas it doesnt do it going into third gear or any gear for that matter

i also get a little whine at low rpm, sounds like its coming from my rear end

Well the clunk coul be due to a worn out tranny mount bushing.. Or maybe the mount could be loose.. as for the whine in the rear when does it occur?? on deceleration, accel, or cruising?? The pinion or ring gear could be shot causing the whine or even a bad bearing

My AOD does the same thing. In first gear it whines a little and it clunks at low speed granny driving upshift/downshift. I've checked the diff almost zero play and my U joints and AOD output bushing and yoke are new. It doesn't do it with normal driving. Also my tranny and engine mounts are new, so I just live with it. I think it is the low gears 3.73 and stall converter that contributes to it.

Good Luck, Don

I agree with gt90stang. I think the 3.73s contribute a lot to driveline noise. There is a lot more torque going on at the rear end, and that gets transmitted back up to the tranny during shifts. My 3.73s while just a little bit too. Since things are spinning a bit faster back there than they normally would, I'm not concerned about it.

It sure wouldn't hurt to get under the car and check the tightness of everything from the tranny on back.
