Clunking suspension sound dealer won't fix...

I've brought my Mustang in to the dealer a few times to have them check out the "clunking" sound the suspension makes when going slowly over rough terrain. I'm convinced it's the problem where the front strut mounts need to be replaced which is covered by TSB 07-18-02. However every time I've brought it in they claim they don't hear anything and as a result don't fix anything. Is there any way I can get the dealer to perform the TSB anyway? From what I've read of other's experiences the sound I'm hearing has got to be the same problem.

what year is your car ,mines an 06 and my suspension sounds very clunky let me know what happens

I had the clunk on my 07. I brought the TSB in and the dealer fixed it no charge. Perhaps it was because I brought it in within 2 weeks of buying the car....I don't know.

Sometimes I think the problem comes back at times. It's not like it was before, but I just wish this car was tight like my previous Honda Accord. That car would just "thump thump" over irregular roads...the Mustang (at slow speed) is a bit more "clunk clunk."

But....I still love the car.

Mine was quite but lately I have getting some squeaks from the suspension. Could this be what I am hearing?

That sounds like a different issue. The sound my car is making is definitely not a squeak. It sounds like loose lumber in the bed of a truck.

Same problem with my '08 GT. Sounds (to me) like a clunk, coming from the rear of the car and seemingly centered behind the driver's side of the car. Doesn't seem to do it as often when it's colder and/or wet out. I've checked the trunk, the suspension and the exhaust and nothing. Almost wondering if it's something in the differential or a U-Joint.

Same noise from the rear on my 08. I think it's beacuse the hole for the upper control arm mount is larger than the bolt they used. J & M uses a step washer to correct this.

Take it to a different dealer and when that dealer replaces it report the original dealer to Ford, remember they're still in the phase of pulling franchises to cut costs and increase customer service quality......If that dealer does close then you laugh at the jobless service writer.

I have an '07 'vert and have noticed a "clunk" from what seems to be the left rear of the car. Only happens over (some) railroad tracks and sharp bumps.

Had the dealer look into it but they can't find the cause.

Could it be as mentioned above-the upper mount hole and bolt used on the upper control arm-we're talking the rear of the car-correct?

Sure sounds like a good candidate for the cause of the sound I've been experiencing. Supposedly buying this heavy duty upper control arm bracket does the trick but I haven't had a chance to do it to my car yet:

Check all the sway bar drop-links are correctly torqued as they do come loose and cause a clunk.

a tsb is not a recall if yr car is under the 3/36 and won't fix call 1800-34-ford and do a bitch againt then than they will fix it

MY '09 has already started clunking. I am going to replace the motor mounts to see what happens. I will keep you all updated.

+2 here. When I replaced my swaybar I didn't tighten the endlinks and it made a very loud clunk on road imperfections and when you first steer into a turn.

Also make sure your front strut mount didn't fail on you for whatever reason. Shouldn't be but never hurts to check.

I have a 2006 V6 with auto trans. Recently there is a downshift clunk when coasting and then hitting the accelerator. Could this be the trans mount, drive shaft… any suggestions?

Two piece driveshaft makes an awful sound at times, this could be what a lot of you guys are complaining about.

I had that "loose lumber" sound in the front end of my 07 GT and it only had 7K miles at the time. I had just bought the car a week earlier, so I did some research, took it back and referenced the TSB - they fixed it immediately with no questions (did have to wait a few days for the part to come in). They did tell me that if it wasn't for the fact that I had just bought the car, they probably would have charged me - TSBs are NOT the same as recalls... I say take it to another dealer and have them drive with you so you can point out the sound to them...

My clunk occurs when the auto trans drops down into second gear (at low speeds, coasting around a corner). Any suggestions?

Did you buy it from that dealership. Often times when you dont buy cars from them, they dont fully take care of you. I bought my car from a private seller and when i go to the dealership they charge me for everything. When I had a coolant leak and asked them for a quote, they gave me a price and an extra 125 dollar "inspection" fee even though i already knew it was the coolant leaking.
