clutch adjustment

so my clutch makes a high-pitched chirping noise whenever i'm not depressing it, so i'm pretty sure it needs to be adjusted. the way i figure it, it chrips because it's not making 100% contact, so if i were to tighten it so that it would, it wouldn't chirp, correct? the noise is coming from the friction. anyhow, i'm new to mustangs and manual trannies, so does anyone have a detailed write-up w/ pics of how to adjust and tighten my stock clutch? thanks, guys

the stock unit is self adjusting and i dont know of any particular way to adjust it without a adj. cable and quadrant. mine is diong the same thing so if anybody has some suggestions i am open to them as well as RAM00

Here is the article he authored. It has some good info in it and might be helpful. I have repeatedly read that Ford does use a preloaded TOB, though it is something I choose not to do.

In your case, it might help.

wow, throw-out bearing... sounds expensive.

how much am i looking at for a new one, and how easy it to install. thanks for the replies, guys.

20-30$ max....but the tranny has to come out.

TOB = 10-40 bucks. I would probably go with a Ford TOB.
You gotta' remove the trans to access the TOB (gets the trans input shaft out of the pilot bearing and clutch assembly so you can get the TOB on and off).

If you want, hit the 'How to' sticky at the top of this sub-forum and read David's (5spd GT) write-up to get an idea of what is involved.
To do just the TOB, stop at the part where the trans is removed.

man, you guys are awesome. thanks for the info. i'm just glad i don't have to replace the clutch... i understand those cost!
