Clutch and Fylwheel Help

Sup fellas im new to this forum and ive been reading as much as i can on forums dealing wit clutches and flywheels and im not sure on wat brand clutch and flywheel i should get and if it should be steel or aluminum. If u can help i will appreciate it. im willin on spendin between $400-$600 total on parts. by the way i have a 98 GT Thanks again

clutch is really a personal choice. Zoom. Hayes. Others. Be aware that the more expensive you get, the more "grabby" the clutch gets. I like the Zoom dual-friction that uses Kevlar on one side. Very rugged.

Flywheel is also your choice. Stock motors do fine with the stock flywheel, just have it re-surfaced if you install a new clutch. Or you can buy a $300 and up flywheel if you plan on extending the RPM range of your motor, to prevent the stocker from coming apart on you which is not a good thing as you can lose your feet or worse.

SPEC, Centerforce and McLeod are the leading clutch manufacturer's

(can't say i've ever heard of ZOOM...)

If you're not goind anything serious to your car i'd probably recommend just replacing it with a stock clutch.

Sorry, don't know where "zoom" came from. Centerforce it is. I suppose it came from just having finished installing a zoom clutch cable / aluminum quadrant for a friend...

I would suggest a Centerforce, and keep stock iron flywheel. No need for aluminum.

Stay away from spec. I have a stage two in my car and the chatter kills me in stop and go traffic. Centerforce DFX is my next choice. Also replace you throw out bearing with a ford one. Any after market throw out bearing will squeak like crazy. Fidanza makes a nice aluminum flywheel which is what i have with a replaceable friction plate so you dont have to have it resurfaced.

For your car I'd recomend the King Cobra or the ever popular Centerforce dual friction setup. The aluminum flywheel is a nice little upgrade but it wont do all that much for you. Just have yer stock piece resurfaced. Make sure you replace the throw out bearing and pilot bearing !

stay way from the king cobra. I had one in my 98 gt and it lasted 7000miles with a 1000 mile breakin. A spec stage 1 is the way to go and on the flywheel side go with the stocker for a DD car.

I just did a clutch and flywheel in my 99 Cobra. I went with a RAM HD clutch with a dual friction plate, and a RAM aluminum flywheel. I love the result, but it did cost me nearly $1000 just for parts.
