Clutch cable about to die, good replacement?

Ok, well i heard a pop today (felt it too) and now my clutch is real sloppy and graps right off the floor. I was told i needed a clutch cable, so its time to be replaced. im going for an OEM (non adjustable) because i hear they are actually very good. Is this the proper cable? its a great price so i really hope so:

Thnaks alot guys!

If you heard and felt a "pop" and your clutch is sloppy, the quadrant may have stripped.Check the teeth on the quadrant, assuming the quadrant is stock.

If the teeth are good and the pedal is sloppy, try pushing the plastic hook part of the quadrant up to adjust it.You should hear a click if it`s sloppy.

(the method of lifting up the clutch pedal to adjust doesn`t always work)

Hey, do you have an OEM cable now? If your SVO quadrant has a long throw, I would get an adjustable cable (I had a Ford Adjustable cable and it is a nice cable too - Diversified also sells them).
I say this because the OEM cable would not fit my old single hook SVO quadrant. THe OEM cable did fit my UPR single hook (much shorter throw).

Good luck.

I just talked to my neighbor, he said he doesnt think the stock cable fits, i have his quadrant (SVO, its silver with SVO embossed on the side) and his old Adjustable cable. so i should get an adjustable one?

That sure sounds an awful lot like my SVO quadrant (also). My (single hook SVO) quadrant came with the Ford adjustable cable in the kit, AFAIK.

To be safe, you could get the Ford adjustable cable - I've had both FOrd cables (adjustable and non) and I think they are both very nice pieces (the adjustable one isnt quite as beefy as the OEM style, but it's close IMHO).

Take a look above the gas pedal and see if the quadrant extends (toward the driver seat) a good little ways - if it does, that sounds like the big quadrant that wont accept the stock cable.

Honestly, I preferred my adj cable and SVO quadrant over the oem style, new quad and FWA (I do NOT like that thing).

Good luck.

your quadrant may be like the blue one pictured below (it's a ford racing quadrant) except yours is unpainted.

it's overlayed with a fiore and mm quadrant. You can see how much longer it is. As you've been told, it was specifically designed for an adj clutch cable and no firewall adjuster (it's a VERY early design). I had luck using it with an early steeda non locking FWA and OEM clutch cable. However, to be fair, the clutch cable was 160k miles, and likely stretched a bit.

worth considering, buying just a mm or fiore quadrant, then getting a stock cable if you can't get that thing working with a stock cable.

as well, worth considering, MM sells sn95 cables, which are the same as the fox ones, but longer, and will work with fox's. This "may" be all you need to clear that longer quadrant.

Jeremy, it's good to see you in here! (He was my sounding-board and advisor with various combinations when I was getting new stuff). It's nice to talk to someone whose used half the stuff available out there. :nice:
